Overview
Kettou Transformers Beast Wars: Beast Senshi Saikyou Ketteisen (loosely translated to "Dueling Transformers Beast Wars: Strongest Beast Warrior Decisive Battle", also known as Kettou Beast Wars: Beast Senshi Saikyou Ketteisen) is a sci-fi fighting game developed by Gaibrain and published by Takara for the Game Boy Color exclusively in Japan on March 19, 1999.
Based on the 1997-1999 media franchise Transformers: Beast Wars, Kettou Transformers Beast Wars pits Maximals (Cybertron) and Predacons (Destron) from throughout the timeline against each-other to fight over a powerful wish-granting Energon Quartz.
Notable for being the first traditional fighting game adaptation of the overall Transformers franchise, Kettou Transformers Beast Wars plays like a standard 2D fighting game with one notable addition: the ability to transform at-will between "Robot Mode" and "Beast Mode" (with some characters instead having a "Vehicle Mode"). Both transformations have different abilities, and each character also having multiple super moves. The game also has multiple mini-games, including images that can be printed via the Game Boy Printer.
The game is backwards-compatible with the original Game Boy, and features support for the Super Game Boy peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It also features Transfer Pak compatibility with the Japanese Nintendo 64 game Transformers: Beast Wars Metals 64 (allowing players to unlock Megatron X in that game).
