Thank you Austin for such a memorable year with Giant Bomb. Your perspective on games, love of other game genres and the insight you offer was like a breath of fresh air, and the rapport you have with all the other GB guys, especially Vinny, Alex and Jeff when GBeast was just making clearer strides is lovely, you fitted in in no time! I still rewatch Playdates, especially Contradiction. I'm working my way through Friends at the Table and it's an amazing wild ride.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica? It's the only anime I've seen recently that, if not "unique", at least subverts the genre. It's only a dozen episodes long (now condensed into a couple of movies) and has a nice character arc.

Caught the tail-end of this, with the Bloodborne speed-run and the holy monstrosity of nacho ice cream. Watching the twitch archive now and dear god, nacho cheese and vodka. It's like coagulated Baileys and lemon juice but even trashier. Oh well, Brad's hair evens it out.

Are the premium streams going to be archived as well? I'd love to see more VinnyVania.

@nnickers: It's been years since I last played, but I futzed it by getting the harder hitting Aeons' overdrives up beforehand, then charging Yuna's overdrive too. That should whack off a huge chunk of HP (and you might as well since you can't reach Sin with physical attacks all the time).

@svenzon: This was in Orange, NSW, Australia. So either this town is even smaller than I thought or Chinese restaurants arre required by law to get their ambience from Final Fantasy.

@nnickers: The context of gaming music in a genteel Chinese restaurant in a rural city was what took me by surprise, but I agree, To Zanarkand is a beautiful piece of music! Knowing the end-game reasons of why your party has to go to Zanarkand makes it even better (in a melancholy sense, anyway). Not to derail, but have you managed to get past that battle? Further great (and bad) music awaits.

I guess the use of game music shouldn't sound so strange, since yeah, like others have mentioned, commercials and sports post-game shows use film soundtracks all the time. Maybe there's still the "vidja gaem" mentality to get over.
