I don't automatically hate well received games, but I probably dislike well received games that doesn't appeal to me more than I dislike a game that doesn't appeal to me that others also doesn't like. Partially because when a lot of people love a game you really don't care for and even can't even 'objectively' see what people are talking about, it kind of gives you that Zoolander feeling of taking crazy pills. I still remember people talking about Shadow of Mordor being so beautiful and all I could see were endless brown boring generic landscapes.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate them though. I can just avoid them.

It depends, sometimes I get that way when I have been really invested in a game and the void it left when it was done was similar to being engrossed in a really good film that ended and you find yourself 'coming back' to reality in some way. But my enthusiasm to play games comes in waves and sometimes I have an urge to play a game but no game really tickles my fancy and I am slowly realizing that those moments it's an old tool I have that isn't actually an urge to play a game but an urge to disconnect and be distracted. So I have over the years been working on not escaping to video games but rather only play when I am excited to play. The result is me playing a little less but enjoying my time with games a little more. And when a game ends I am thankful for the time I had with it but I am not throwing myself into the next game right away unless it's one I have been waiting for a long time.

Thanks for the write up, I heard about this game briefly somewhere but completely spaced on it. As a big fan of TNG (and someone that sometimes is in the mood for a Telltale-esque game) I might have to give this one a try.

I would agree, but as others have said, it's not so much that they are bad just extremely mediocre. And I can't always put my fingers on it, but there's a certain sense for me of a lot of AAA games just threading water creatively compared to how it used to be. It seems a lot of AAA game development has stagnated, creatively or otherwise. I can't even off the top of my head name an upcoming AAA game I'm excited about, let alone remember exists. And it isn't helped by a lot of AAA games lately coming out completely broken or, as said, extremely mediocre. Even the titles I have liked, has all of them felt like there was room for more ideas that was never realized.

Very rarely, if ever. Sometimes I get an urge for a very specific game I have not touched in forever, but more often than not what I am met with is a few minutes of nostalgia and then I am hit by how dated everything feels and that often rubs me the wrong way enough to not stick with it. In general I find myself either really liking a game enough to sticking with it until finished or I drop it and it's anyone's guess if I'll ever pick it back up again.

I think the bad part of it is I find myself dropping games a lot more lately, and I am not sure if it's the games or my willingness to drop it for something 'new' more easily.

I'll offer a perspective from someone that's neither American or British; for a Swede like me, British humor translates a lot less than American. Your examples, while fun (and I recently enjoyed Fresh Meat), actually don't translate as well as the majority of American humor shows. Or to use a left field example; there are more cards in the UK version of Cards Against Humanity that me and my friends leave out because they make zero sense to us, while all of the cards in the US version works just fine.

Also, I absolutely love American stand up.

I used to try harder to finish games, but these days I have just come to accept that if a game can't hold my attention until it's finished it's on the game. Because I do finish games. And it's not a matter of length. I finished Cyberpunk despite doing everything in that game and clocked in at over 100 hours yet I have put down games considerably smaller because my interest just fizzles out. Then there are series of games that are unique. Assassin's Creed as an example. They are one of those weird series I play that I tend to grow fatigue with at around the 60-80% mark. I put them down, sometimes for years. And then I come back and finish them.

Thinking a bit on it, I think the only games in recent memory that has held my attention for their entire runtime without me giving up on them or pausing them to play other games are Cyberpunk, Gorogoa, The Last Of Us 2 and the previous God of War. Most other games I currently play I can't really with any confidence say I'll ever finish.

That Mortal Kombat movie was awesome and I'll not hear no backtalk about it. That being said, I have been curious about this show and whether or not it actually turned out well. Like other's have said, the game is basically already a tv-show so making it to an actual tv-show wouldn't need too much work. And I am glad to hear they're not trying to spin their own yarn when the source is good enough. Good read, sorry to hear your job application didn't go anywhere!

I live in a post-review world myself. I don't entirely know when it happened, but unless I am bored and want to try something new and sort metaritic by score I don't really care what reviews say. Most games are so available to look at and form a somewhat coherent understanding of what the game is and whether or not it's for me that I don't really need anyone else telling me if the game is for me or not. And looking at the games I have enjoyed the most these last few years, few of them have been the most praised games and the most praised games have rarely been my favorites.

That was a great read, even if my own experience with the game was a lot less positive. Partially because the type of texting way of telling a story never really worked for me. And partially because I was listening to so many personal stories from coworkers that had fled wars to my country (a topic that came up a lot when the war in Syria was all over the news and there was a lot of refugees coming here) that the game just paled in comparison to real world anecdotes, despite it being based on real people. But I also realized the game wasn't made for me, but for people who don't have access to people like I had.

Looking forward to read more of these from you!
