Games of the Year: 2013

I almost didn't do this because the amount of games I get/play each year that actually comes OUT that year is super tiny, but after thinking it over, I figured that I probably had at least 10 games this year that fits the above criteria that I actually enjoyed. So without further adieu, here we gooo!

List items

  • Hands down, one of the best games I've played in a long time. I can't remember the last time I've been this excited for a Mario game. (Wii U)

  • Probably my favorite fighting game ever, more or less tied with Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I loved it so much I bought it on both consoles and donated a chunk to their IndieGoGo campaign to get the PC version when it came out this year. (PC)

  • With loads of single player content and a great versus mode, Injustice was in my PS3 more often than any game I've had for the system. (PS3)

  • I bought this in October and have played it every day since. I'm sure my zeal for it will wear off eventually, but until then, I'm having loads of fun with it. (3DS)

  • I almost didn't submit this to the list since I was heavily involved with the development, but then I remembered that the reason I became involved was because I loved the first one so much. While I did feel that there was a lot that could still be improved on, this is pretty much the best fighter on Xbox Live's Indie circuit. (XBLA, PC)

  • This is literally the reason I got Steam finally. I'd worked with (game creator) Vanni Del Moral on BH2 and figured I'd support him by picking up this title. It's a really nice action-shooter that brings back warm feelings of the 16-bit era. (PC)

  • I'm not a huge fan of free-to-play titles, but I've been super addicted to Puzzle Quest in the past and I love comic books. Like New Leaf, I've played it every day since I've gotten it, and since it's still pretty new, I've not even come close to getting bored with it. (PC)

  • I really enjoyed the first one - more so than Mario Kart Wii in fact - so I'm pretty pleased that this one turned out so well. I'm not much of a racing game fan, so this would have ranked higher if I were more into the genre. (PC)

  • While far from being amazing, this is a fun little game that deserves a look. There's quite a bit that bothers me about it, but it's fun and got a lot of charm. (PSN)

  • As indicated before, I'm not a big fan of free-to-play games, but I do love me some fightin'. What started out as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 lite has grown into its own solid entry in the series. The roster continues to grow each month and the game keeps surprising me. The only thing I could wish for at this point is local Vs. mode. (PSN)
