For Neon White I don't know if the writing is "too online" or the voice acting is just goofy as fuck. I don't have a problem with either.

Gotta be in honest, I was in Belgium last week, and their tap water was incredible. Feel bad that Grubb got sick from it, but I absolutely loved it.

Jeff. We call it the "deadzone" of the gulf up river. I.E. the area of the Gulf that is over run by plants due to fertlizer run off from all the farms, suburbs, and golf courses along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.

The idea that you are dealing with explosive plant grown on the FL side of the Gulf is to be expected.

Every time I think of the phrase "he had thought only of Tingle for months" it plays in Werner Herzog's voice in my head.

I really appreciate the episode notes! I don't know how long they have been there but it's WAY easier to jump back to where I had to leave during live Bombcast. I usually can't listen the whole thing on Tuesday.

Some game identification would be appreciated as sometimes I pause the show then have no idea what game is being talked about when I resume.

All this talk of hot dogs brings scrapple to mind. Has anyone (on the show) had it?

There are two things that always puzzle me.

1 - Why no one on staff ever thinks the 2D sonic games are fun

2 - Why Sega can't just make a good new 2d Sonic.

I have developed an intense dislike for anime voice acting, no matter the language. No matter the story, tone or scene, everyone sounds like they're in a show for five-year olds. Like they all talk like they're in front of a circle of kids and are performing a daycare play or something.

I also couldn't stand the writing in Donut County, so I have severe doubts I would enjoy the Neon White story. Night in the Woods was pushing it at times but overall I enjoyed the writing. The lack of voice acting probably helped

That reminds me that I'm really happy that the Ace Attorney games have minimal voice acting.

@janman If you want an Emmy you're going to need to submit your own work for consideration. Ben at MinnMax submitted his Oregon Trail documentary to the upper midwest Emmies and got like $500 from the local PBS station and they aired it I believe.

@theonewhoplays: Have you considered just turning the dialogue volume down to nothing, so you can just read the text? I guess there's still some cutscenes etc that might have voiced dialogue but might help a bit?

I'm not sure what anime you've been watching that you find the VA so unbearable though. Yeah there are definitely some shows that do sound the way you describe, mostly the shows aimed at kids, but there are plenty that have (in my opinion) some exceptional voice work, in English and Japanese (and probably in other languages too...)

@chrisflavin: Pretty sure Jan has openly expressed his love for some of the older Sonic games, but I know what you mean. Maybe part of its just nostalgia, but I play through the Megadrive Sonic games every few years, give or take, and still find them to be an absolute blast.

I do wish Sega would just let Christian Whitehead and his team do a Sonic Mania 2 or something, and make that series the mainline Sonic games. Let Sonic Team piss about with whatever (bad) idea they have as a sideline and keep the 2D games as the focus.

It's funny cause they usually have this anti-nostalgia and think back that the games were way worst than they think, add to that they usually like most people, go back to play the old games and only play the first few levels which are straightforward with a few sections to pay attention to or you smash into spike walls. So people always come off thinking the games were always bad. The games controlled well for their time and were a nice change of pace with the speed being overstated as something you couldn't control but fun in that it was rollercoaster-like. People now look at the rollercoaster-like sections as just pressing forward so it's bad then they hit into spikes. I find the rollercoaster sections like a nice cutscene but there's a bunch of understated gameplay that isn't just jumping over pits, plenty of clever stuff in those games, good graphics for the time, and catchy tunes.

I think the debate with mario causes many to not like sonic, since most love Mario so much. Add to that, its hard to make platforming in 3d fast without getting people mad cause they mess up or the controls aren't perfect. Mario has this stutter step and more forgiving feeling that sonic doesn't get. (I think sega team can find a way to fix their games thou, given DREAMS has one person creating mario like games with the same physics solo.) I think the team just doesn't care or gave up/thinks more about story/innovationing gameplay for better or worst than making a decent game. Later levels in sonic were really good, thou I think mania was overrated by people who hate sonic since most of the ideas you see in other 2d sonic games. Sonic rush adventure was particularly fun, along with the advanced series like sonic advanced 3 and 2. But yeah, never saw a critic site that liked sonic, atleast major ones, usually have to add a point to the reviews since the games always come off as strikes to mankind for some reviewers lol.

Sounds like @jerf hasn't had the pleasure of eating scrapple. Arguably worse composition-wise of food but delicious. Just don't think about it when you eat it.

Maybe it’s just me, but feels like Ready Player One gets way more hate on Giant Bomb (specifically from Bakalar) than anywhere else. I’m not even the biggest fan of that movie (haven’t read the book), but hearing them say it’s on the same level as ‘Pixels’, and looking at the RT and IMDB scores of both those movies respectively, I’m just like ‘oh come on’ lol. I don’t know, I guess Ready Player One seems pretty inoffensive to me (neither great nor terrible), and otherwise an entertaining enough movie. So to hear folks have such strongly negative opinions on this of all movies just cracks me up a bit I suppose.
