Overview
Tetris & Dr. Mario is a falling-block puzzle game compilation developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America on December 30, 1994 and in Europe on July 25, 1995.
As the name implies, Tetris & Dr. Mario is a compilation cartridge containing updated versions of the NES and Game Boy versions of Tetris and the Dr. Mario, both of which have minor graphical and gameplay updates (such as player-vs-CPU support in the VS. modes).
In addition, the cartridge includes an exclusive third game, known as "Mixed Match", which is a multiplayer "score attack" game with both players playing a series of three games (Tetris B-Type, then Dr. Mario, then an endless Tetris A-Type) on a shared time limit and try to get the highest score. The concept of mixing Tetris with another falling-block puzzle game would later be revisited 20 years later with Puyo Puyo Tetris.
While the compilation did not get released in Japan (due to Tetris licensing there), the Dr. Mario portion was later released separately in Japan, first for the Satellaview (on March 30, 1997), then as part of the Nintendo Power cart-writing service (on June 1, 1998).
