Mass Effect 3 To Launch On All Three Platforms Simultaneously

Commander Shepard no longer has a favorite platform on the Citadel.

No platform will have the jump on the other when Mass Effect 3 hits retail at some point in late 2011. EA has confirmed (via Joystiq) that the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the sci-fi RPG will launch at the same time around the globe--a first for the series, though the franchise hasn't even seen its debut yet on the PS3.

Mass Effect 3 was formally announced over the weekend at the Spike Video Games Awards show, and as a leak had already indicated, the game will indeed focus largely on Earth. The debut teaser at the 2010 VGAs showed Earth being invaded and bruised by Reapers and their little baddies. It also highlighted the fact that Shepard is a quadrillion miles away attempting to handle the larger threat by gathering support for the fight.

No Caption Provided

"At BioWare, we are always driving ourselves to improve and I firmly believe our best work is still ahead of us," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, BioWare co-founder, said in a press release statement. "We could not be prouder of the team's accomplishments with Mass Effect 2, and are excited and humbled by all of the recognition the game has received so far. We can't wait to show you what the team is doing to make ME3 an even bigger success."

ME2 will hit the PS3 on January 18 in North America and January 21 in Europe. A demo of the PS3 version, by the way, is hitting on December 21 in NA and December 22 in Europe. Chances are you already knew ME2 is really, really, good, but just in case you didn't… ME2 is really, really good.

Anyone else starting to find these spam comments kind of endearing? I think it's sorta cute how they keep trying, despite them clearly not working at all. It's like the when the baby runs around being all poopy everywhere at a family reunion.

It would be nice to experience the story, but gameplay wise going from Mass Effect 2 you might be a little bummed. I still think that game was incredible for the time, but looking back stuff has really improved since then.

I'm glad to see that. First party exclusives I understand but third party exclusives are just pointless. Depending on how good ME2 is on the PS3 (and how good the ME1 background flashback stuff is handled), I'll definitely get it. Granted, I'll probably get it on PC too.

The first game was published by Microsoft, so it will never come out on the PS3. Unless they do some crazy deal with Microsoft... but I don't see that happening lol

Hm I must admit I'm a bit surprised they didn't even manage to arrange an exclusive launch date for the 360 or something like that. Maybe the bomb drops when the DLC rolls out. Either way I'm looking forward to this game SO MUCH!

They've said all along that if you got the Worst of Bad Endings to ME2, you couldn't continue your save onto the next game, because  SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.

Glad to see that everyone will be able to enjoy in the Mass Effecty goodness at one time. Interested to see what kind of affect this has on sales numbers out the gate.

I just hope the rumors of multiplayer in ME3 have been greatly exaggerated. It's just one of those games that doesn't need it, Bioware has pretty much no experience with it, and will ultimately add nothing to the game. That is unless it's co-op, in which case I approve but based on the vibe of the series, I don't think that is likely.

@SlashseveN303: It's probably true. I made sure I replayed ME1 and got the save game so that I would never have to play it again and I am glad I did that because ME2 is a vastly superior shooter.

Looking forward to ME3... Idk what they can improve on but I hope they do. My only complaint with ME2 might be that I would of liked a less structured story or mechanic of just collecting team mates.

Was surprised to see the PS3 version will be launching at the same time as the 360 / Pc version seeing as ME2 hasn't even been released yet, two ME games in one year pretty good for PS3 owners like myself.

I'm Callin It: ME3 onPC will not actually launch on time. It will be delayed just a few weeks before launch.

Good stuff though. All PS3 users who like Sci-Fi should play this game when it comes out. It's as good or better than Uncharted 2. If you super dig it, find ME1 on PC. You don't need it to play 2, but you'll certainly get something out of it.

I didn't think ME2 was really really good.  It was actually kind of boring and the simple formula of go find this guy, do him a favor and then recruit him, rinse, repeat got VERY tired by the midpoint of the game.  ME1 was far superior in story although it had weaker mechanics.  I'm not really sure why everybody has such a huge boner for ME2 - it was OKAY, not great at all.

the combat itself and overall "look" sure.

everything else took a step back.  Instead of improving cluttered inventory and whatnot..they just get rid of it.

I liked ME2 but I can still go back and play ME1 again and again because it offers everything 2 does and more..even if a lot (most) loot got redundant.  ME2 get's boring because there's not much variation (other then story but ME1..as I said..has this too..plus more)

so yah...ME1 is always good to go back too.

excellent news. i might pick this up on ps3 now instead of pc. i won't be picking up me2 for ps3 however. i've already finished it and almost all of the dlc on pc, seeing as it came out a full year ago... i think if a company is thinking of releasing a game on another platform they need to do better than have it come out a year late, but perhaps the announcement of me3 will spur on ps3 game sales for me2. on the other hand, it might affect them with gamers who ARE picking it up on ps3 having to buy both games in the same year, presumably both at full price.

Since when was London covered with gigantic metallic towers? You live there, please tell me.

I've lived in London. I'm currently living in York. Guess what? Someone of these buildings are really damn old. But they're still used for modern shops.

I'm glad the guys at Bioware are aware that not all buildings have to be demolished in the future.

I suggest people not to be too swayed by what they see in this CGI trailer. Do you remember the CGI trailer for Mass Effect 2, how it ended up with Shepard & Co. staring at the Collector ship on a random planet, getting ready to infiltrate it in the most rushed/random way possible? Yeah, that didn't happen, really. Let's just assume this is just a portion of the story. I'm sure it's not going up with, "OMG 8 MILLION DEAD ON EARTH GOGOGO!"

Its Parliament, its Big Ben, the only two things we see.if their were to be something like a historical preservation socieitI think it would be take into consideration that those two would not be touched
