Rockstar Games would like you to know that Max Payne 3 is still a game that it plans to release. At least, that’s the message I’m extrapolating from a recent Rockstar Games tweet, which contains the words “he’s coming” alongside two new images of the titular hero of the series.
It’s easy to forget that this game is still in the works. After a stunning reveal in 2009 that showed off the grimier and much flabbier side of Max Payne, the project suffered several postponements. It was, at one time, set to release in the first half of 2010, though to be fair, this was the same year that publisher Rockstar and its sister publisher, 2K Games, released three big titles: Mafia II, BioShock 2, and Red Dead Redemption. Now, though, it's uncertain what the release window for Max Payne 3 actually is, and the publisher has, to this point, been more focused on putting out info related to L.A. Noire.
As for what these new screens show us, it appears as though Rockstar might be toning down the grizzled and broken look of 2009’s puffy Max. His chest and forearms are looking pretty good and that shirt? Dude is styling. Wouldn't want to get in his way, that's for sure.
Argh! If they're going to remake the story COMPLETELY, why slap the Max Payne name on it? It feels like they might aswell just create a new franchise out of it. Oh well... If the action is good and they don't turn Max into a creepy old guy I might be onboard.

Because IPs with recognition sell better than new IPs.
I'd like to think they're delaying it to take it from good to incredible, not because the game is a horrendous mess and they're trying to eck some good out of it.
I've a good mind to say that I think they rebooted this game almost entirely. He may not be in Brazil anymore, and he's not looking all gross and fat as he was previously.
Well, these certainly look more promising. Hopefully they've toned down the "doesn't look anything like Max Payne at all" aspect of those earlier screenshots and are shooting for some sort of compromise. Also, I sort of hope they use the alternate ending of Max Payne 2 as canon-- otherwise Max is basically the only character in the series left alive at this point. Might make it kind of hard to get a good revenge going.
i trust Rockstar. i love max payne 1 and especially 2 i'll be very excited to hopefully one day get my hands on max payne 3....hairy head bald head skinny fat i dont care i want more payne!
Well, that's all fine and dandy, but they're screenshots! Give us gameplay, or a trailer at the very least! Us fans cannot be sustained by 10 screenshots over the period of a year-and-a-half.
I could see this being awesome if they decided to keep the awesome John Woo elements while giving the tone a refresh. Film noir style is fun, but it's also a bit monotone after multiple games.
If they were gonna make a game in South America, they should have just started a new IP. Taking max to the film noire style that made us fall in love with the games, is a good move. More John McClain, less Sean William Scott in the run down.
It seems that many of Rockstar's games get delayed a lot, but turn out fine. I can't remember if GTA IV or RD:R were extensively delayed, but I know they at least had long development cycles and they turned out great. I know they're from different developers, but I thought Rockstar San Diego was garbage and they knocked one out of the park with RD:R last year.
Also, L.A. Noire has been delayed to hell and back, but a lot of the footage they're putting out looks promising.
I say we give Rockstar the benefit of the doubt, I believe they've earned it.
Anyone care to stop making snap judgements on a game you haven't even seen more than 2 or 3 screenshots of? It could be terrible, it could be fucking awesome.... Wait and see!
