Konami shed a bit of light on the next Silent Hill this afternoon at its E3 media briefing, highlighting foremost that the game will stick to its horror roots and feature the same mesh of puzzle and fight-or-flight elements. Interestingly, the publisher noted that Silent Hill 8 will feature "unique evolutions" in the combat system, and will have adjustable side-missions based on play style.
What Silent Hill 8 would look like if I were the art director. The game, which is tentatively titled, is under development at Vatra Games and will launch on the Xbox 360 and PS3 at some point in 2011.
As for what kind of Silent Hill you'll be swinging your flashlight around in, it's being said that Silent Hill 8 will appeal to fans of the early titles. I heard that Akira Yamaoka isn't involved with this one... His music and sound direction were key aspects of what made Silent Hill so atmospheric and moody.
Would really like a Silent Hill game similar to Shattered Memories, but as long as the game is good (and scary), I'm all for it being like earlier games in the series.

But they got the music director from Dexter to fill his shoes! I love Yamaoka (he went to work for Grasshopper, BTW), but Dan Licht is the most pefect replacement I can imagine.

I am curious about what Dan Licht has to offer to Silent Hill. Is he going to try to emulate Yamaoka's style or bring something new and different? Still, I wish Konami could have contracted out Yamaoka to do the soundtrack and design consulting for this one. Oh well.
I guess Konami didn't learn from Shattered Memories, the first game in the series that was actually playable due to not having terrible combat controls. They really should have stayed on that path only on an HD console and with some actual difficulty included.
Yeah, the convict/combat evolutions have got me worried they might try what they did with Homecoming, which is not a good direction to go. But hey, this is just an announcement, so i guess I shouldn't worry until I actually KNOW something about the game.

Awesome picture.. but I wonder if they'll implement move or kinect in the game? That'll make puzzles a little more interesting atleast, Shattered Memories did a good job of this.
Sigh.... did Silent Hill: Shattered Memories really do so poorly that they are going back to the played out original formula? Silent Hill 2 is great but they have been going downhill with that formula since then.
Shattered Memories was awesome because it was completely new and made some of the best use of the Wiimote I've seen. The whole psyche profiling stuff was also pretty cool, though mostly caused visual differences. It was probably my favorite experience on Wii last year, I mean it was a bad year for hardcore games on Wii but I actually stopped playing other cool games on 360 and PS3 so I could play all the way through Shattered Memories, I had to see what was next.
I was hoping for a sequel with more gameplay and to create a creepier atmosphere, so I am saddened by this announcement. Are OG Brad and me the only people who liked that game?
