Assassin's Creed 2 - Screens
The first screens for Assassin's Creed 2 have been released.
I like the use of lighting in these screens, it captures the distinct lighting you see there very well. I get the strong impression Ubi's team working on the game have looked at Canaletto and English painter, JMW Turner's work in Venice to aid them. (pfff, you uncultured..) The water effects look great, which is of course essential given the location the game is set in.
Venezia ftw?
Thoughts GB?

"Looks about the same I guess, was pretty disappointed when I got the first game. It'd been pretty hyped. Not too psyched about this one."
There were undoubtedly a few aspects of the first game that seemed plain wrong, in my eyes, terribly bad design decisions. I hope that does not happen here.On a not of positivity, this location of Venice seems like it will likely be far more exciting to traverse for the player. I can easily see, Ezio Auditore de Firenze, (what a mouthful) hopping on Gondolas to evade or kill.
Awesome! Nice find, Linky. And I gotta say, it's nice to see Desmond's ancestors eventually caught onto the concept of swimming. =P
"Looking at those screens, I can totally see water being a major stealth element in the game. The original had an extreme lack of it."
Definitely, it brings a very cool dynamic into the game, one that could be utilized very well. To be fair to Ubi, for a change, I have to admit they have chosen the location very well. The way I see it, this environment will allow for more freedom when it comes to approaching situations.
Nice looks likeAssassin's Creedwith swimming hopefully not so repetitive.
Honestly the only problem I had with the game were the repetitive side missions to do before assassinating each target. The actual assassination of the target and exploring the locales kept me going. Chasing that rich, obese man through the city streets or following that doctor around the medical area were so well one and genuinely unique. I like how every assassination scenario played out differently. If they can just give me more stuff to do before the actual assassination, I'll be set for the sequel.
Those shots actually look pretty amazing. It's pretty awesome that the team at Ubi Montreal are exploring locations that other games in the past haven't really gone into. I thought it was interesting when rumors first mentioned that Assassin's Creed 2 would take place during the French Revolution, but this is even better.

I agree
I think it can have positive ramifications outside of the game, helping to nurture in some gamers a fascination, one that's conducive to a player wanting to know more about a place and it's history. If a game can do that all within the environment, well then it's even better. I don't think that will happen with this game given it's nature, but I think many may well think about taking a trip one day.
You would definitely not want to swim in the real thing, Venice while looking beautiful in parts, stinks something rotten in places. It's not romantic at all when you consider that. I think many couples must be shocked by it. I went five years ago, with my then girlfriend at the time who was Spanish. There were times where were both really embarrassed and appalled by it.. We sprayed a two bandanna's with perfume and wore them around our necks, just in case. When things get rough we looked like two Latino gangsters, lol
It's funny, because both of the supposed most romantic cities in the world, Paris and Venice, both reek!. Paris because of it's partially covered sewer system, and Venice for, I dread to fucking think.
It makes perfect sense to me that both those cities back in the day, in the time this game is set in fact, were doing a lot of trade with the Arabs. They had something which was prized, sweet smelling spices and herbs, tree barks and saps.
this looks awesome...i can't wait
and as long as that info that was leaked is true, this game will be so much better than the first
the first one was overrated. the gameplay was repetitve, and the story sucked. If this game is the total opposite of the first one, im all in.

Overrated? Everyone hates it. I don't, but most people do.
I liked the first one, and enjoyed it quite a lot...the only thing that got to me (like most people) was the repetitivenes of the side missions... and I really, REALLY dispised the collecting flag missions!
I loved the gore and bone crushing combat!!!
Hopefully they'll fix the issues it had...
"You would definitely not want to swim in the real thing, Venice while looking beautiful in parts, stinks something rotten in places."Yeah, the canals aren't very pleasant at all -- they're essentially sewers for the entire city, and they have been used for waste-management for centuries.
Just a logical observation here. Those guards in Armour, if they are wearing heavy Armour, they wont be able to swim and give chase.
Perhaps, the real Armour that city guards wore at the time had something akin to a quick release mechanism, where they could drop Armour plates with a sufficient degree of ease and give chase if need be. My thinking is that some guards, had to have Armour that allowed them to do that. while others had specialized Armour, made of bound leather that was flexible and light enough to allow for swimming at an instant.

Those guards in Armour, if they are wearing heavy Armour, they wont be able to swim and give chase.I do remember reading somewhere they have plans for making the combat system far less repetitive and providing more options for players. So perhaps you're right, you fight the heavy armoured guys, find you are going to lose if you continue and decide to make a run for it. Being heavily armoured they can't keep up, so you get to safety, but perhaps those guards will remember you and recognise you if they see you in the area again?

The running and jumping and exploration was the best part of the first one. This looks to be riding on the same things, the hiding in straw and stuff like that, hopefully they do what they say and make the lead up to the assassination more interesting. I forget, could you swim in the first one?
