Overview
BackTrack is a sci-fi first-person shooter developed by JV Games and published by Telegames for Windows PCs on December 1998.
A simplistic first-person shooter from the studio behind the Towers series, BackTrack puts players in the role of special agent Jim Track as he infiltrates a secret underground base on the dark side of the Moon in order to fight the droid forces of the alien Domingoaniax, rescue hostages, and destroy the base.
Despite its simplistic graphics and gameplay (similar to Wolfenstein 3D, Corridor 7, and the Blake Stone series), the game is unique for using a contextual "Action" button for opening doors, activating objects, and firing the weapon, allowing most of the game to be played using a single two-button mouse or joystick.
It later received a handheld conversion for the Game Boy Advance on October 4, 2001 (in North America) and on November 23, 2001 (in Europe). This version is known for being one of the earliest first-person shooters for the platform and adds both linked multiplayer and A.I. multiplayer bots. JV Games later built on the engine for the GBA conversion of 007: Nightfire.
