Just saw this in my Twitter feed. What do you guys think? Will it be more of the same things they've already shown? Or something completely new since Ken Levine said that they wouldn't show anything else until the game was nearly finished. Honestly I'm expecting something completely mind blowing.

    Why can't such games have a togglable third-person-view? ._.

Does every new game nowadays have to have some ludicrous special edition packaged with crappy collectibles that inevitably sit in the back of people's cupboards gathering dust? The game looks great though.

I have paid zero attention to this game. I shall continue to pay zero attention to it. I dont think there is any way this game can top the original so keeping expectations low should help make the game more enjoyable.

lol? What's gross about that? I found the option to toggle between first- and third-person view comes in handy in games like Fallout.

Not every game is designed to appeal to the way you play. Not every FPS needs a third-person toggle and not every game from a third person perspective needs a first-person toggle. The game is designed to be played in the first person, like the two previous BioShock games, and wishing for it to be something else is pointless when it's a fundamental trait of the series.

@FluxWaveZ: I was merely stating it would be cool to have such an option, not that the game needs it.

@Morrow: I think this game would be a lot harder to play in third person then Fallout was. This is way more of a shooter then that game, but it would be cool to see what Booker looks like, I could see Irrational never showing him. Pinkterton Troy Baker would be super rad.

Oh also, OH MAN THIS GAME! I got the chills...can't wait.

@TheSouthernDandy: I don't think third-person-view makes things harder, more like the opposite. I always feel a little paranoid and claustrophobic when playing in first-person, because you have such a limited view... that's why I avoid most games with FPV. If Dishonored would have been third-person, I would have totally picked it up... oh well, that's just a personal quirk of mine.

    No.

The game is designed to be played in first-person, from the core of its gameplay to the nature of its presentation.

@Morrow: I totally understand where you're coming from. The problem is that it's just really, really, really hard to get one type of control system working perfectly. Adding a second one would be way more expensive, time consuming, and create some confusion over how the game is supposed to be played. Just look at Fallout, its third person camera, while kind of cool, is totally terrible compared to games that focus exclusively on third person. The basic design of the world also changes depending on the kind of view the game has, things like detail on objects etc.

Didn't like the first one that much. 2nd one I thought played way better, but the universe was still kinda 'meh' to me.

    @Hailinel:

I know, doesn't change the fact that I prefer third-person.

@TheGorilla: Well maybe I'm just an unpretentious gamer :D I thought there was nothing wrong with Fallouts third-person view. But I can understand that some people who play it more as a shooter combat-wise are not very pleased with its camera controls. I guess hybrid games are always gonna be considered flawed because you can't please everyone.

I feel like they HAD to release this trailer. Haven't heard much of the game, plus all the top people leaving Irrational, have sort of created a negative buzz around the game. Judging by the reactions I'm seeing, it was a good move and got people hyped again.

Me personally I thought it was okay. Nice to see some new areas, but so much of this game just looks scripted. Normally that won't bother me too much, but here it just irks me.

Looks amazing. February can't come fast enough.

I really love the Bioshock callbacks in the opening, with the rainswept lighthouse and the cigar box with a gun and photo inside it.

@Morrow: It's more of an issue with console games. When starting borderlands 2 on PC I played for the first few hours wondering why the hell I felt so claustrophobic and restricted. Well I realized the FOV was set to the console versions, and with a simple slide of a setting it was good to go.

Also adding a third person view would require them to add a bunch of new animations and other bullshit to make the experiences equal. They could do it like Bethesda originally did for fallout, which was basically just let the player pull the camera back, but that is a shitty way of handling it. It creates inconsistencies with the controls, shooting, and the game looks like shit because the player model looks like a lifeless doll because they didn't bother to create proper animations for the player. So I say no thank you to a third person view option, because that just adds extra development time or takes away focus from more important parts of the game.

I remember Ken Levine talking about how the Handymen had a sad origin story. From the looks of this trailer, they were sick people prayed upon by a snake oil salesman type.
