    Boos are ghostly enemies that made their first appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. When looked at directly, Boos will freeze in place and cover their eyes because of their extreme shyness. They will only attack if Mario or Luigi has their back turned.

    Boos have been featured as a playable character in spin-off titles such as the Mario Kart series and Mario Party, among others.
