Last week I bought the first one and all it's DLC on the PSN because it was on sale ($15 for whole bundle). I've been hooked on the single player ever since (started playthrough 2 to get to level 50) and I will be starting a 2 player split screen game with my buddy soon. Looking forward to 2 and glad I didn't have to wait since 2009 to get a sequel!

Borderlands 2 Is Officially a Thing
Hey guys, remember when Alex referred to the product in an article as a "thing"? Man, that was awesome.

I wish every headline written by Alex contained the word "thing."
It would be a fun little trademark. Just wish the title was longer.
Also, FUCK YES BORDERLANDS 2
Just feed it into my veins!
Seriously, Borderlands is one of the finest co-op experiences around. The DLCs, whilst varying in quality, were always worth the money in content, and General Knoxx was one of the best DLCs ever (next to Undead Nightmare).
Day 1 purchase!
GOD DAMMIT, I WANT TO BE AT PAX.
I think this is the sort of thing that dreams are made of. I can't wait for this, now I'm going to go blissfully insane knowing that this is a thing now. Yayyayyayyay.
Mission improvements is a welcome improvement. I hope to god the fix they biggest flaw with Borderlands though. We need END-GAME activities to actually use our loot with, doing Mad Moxxi isn't all that fun, and there isn't much else there that I'm aware of that keeps me coming back for more borderlands. And I played the shit out of it.
I actually played the game mostly single player though I did help a lot of other players in coop when I reached the level cap. I felt that the singleplayer experience was fine, and not that inferior to the coop imo, especially considering that my recent coop experiences with random often involved 13 year olds asking me if I have any pearlescents.
Yeah, it was pretty bland and boring when I played by myself, but got a lot better with another player. Still a lot of room for improvement in both narrative and gameplay variety, though.@Laketown said:

The three things in the quote they said there would be improvements on are the three things I wanted improvements on. Looking forward to this!
Please have custom characters. One of the best parts of these loot grind games is going out and seeing how crazy the other people online have tricked out their character. The weapon is only one part of that. At very least a few options for a base model that could be improved as you play would be awesome.
Best gaming news of the year, as far as I'm concerned. I've probably put more time into Borderlands than any other game. Can't wait to do it again. BRING THAT SHIT, YO.
I wake up, get on skype, and see my friend had posted
[11:13:51 AM] Mr. Hero: Borderlands 2 just got annouced.
so after yelling out and rushing to giantbomb and then scrolling furiously through skype messages, this was my reaction:
[12:20:16 PM] Me: HERO I JUST CAME EVERYWHERE
[12:20:18 PM] Me: IINTENSELY
FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
[12:20:29 PM] Me: BORDERLANDS
[12:20:31 PM] Me: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
[12:20:35 PM] Me: YES YES YES YES YES
[12:20:56 PM] Mr. Hero: You see the article?
[12:21:13 PM] Mr. Hero: The dude on the picture looks pretty badass.
[12:21:21 PM] Mr. Hero: I hope that's the new big guy.
[12:21:31 PM] Me: Yeah! As soon as I saw what you said I eeped and rushed to Giantbomb. That cover looks bad ass.
I am so goddamn happy. This is like Diablo 3 all over again.

Eh, I played the entire game by myself and had a ton of fun.
More like BORINGlands, am I right folks? *slide whistle*
Dumb jokes aside, I still don't get the fondness Jeff and others have for the original. You play as a soldier (because the class balancing is so broken it doesn't make a lot of sense to play as anything else), shoot bugs/lizards/mutant guys that are bullet sponges and take far too long to go down, then you get loot that consists of THOUSANDS OF UNIQUE WEAPONS (that are all mostly exactly the same, except for some stat and elemental effects). Oh, and there are sometimes car sections with bad controls. The fact it has co-op doesn't change any of these problems I have with it.
Between BL1 and Duke Nukem Forever, Gearbox is going to have to do something huge to pique my interest

@Creamypies said:Well I don't have others to play it with, so what's wrong with me wanting them to improve the experience for single player? I didn't think playing solo was fine and it was immensely boring. If developers will let players play single player, then they also need to take the time to make sure that their game is fun in that mode. If they don't want to support it, then they should just disable all players from playing single player. The game was created from the ground up to be played with others, this sort of criticism ain't fair.
Having said that, I think it was perfectly fine as a single player experience.
All i am hearing is bitching and complaining.. I bet you play Cod, Did you play single player cod? Because if you did then you would know how boring and disgusting of a singleplayer campaign it was. Same with BFBC2 and almost every other FPS out there.. Least with Borderlands it had quests and RPG elements in it besides the "Walk down this corridor and shoot whatever pops out at you but dont go into the rooms because there is a chair fallen over in the doorway."
I finished the game twice almost exclusively playing solo and I thought it had more than enough content to keep me interested the whole time. Not saying couldn't be improved, though.@FireBurger said:

PC eh? Hope they actually put some effort into it this time. I had to apologise to friends last time for getting them to purchase that POS. I later bought it on the 360 and it's a great game there. Shame about it's counterpart. Maybe they should actually like test it this time? Working multiplayer without VPN or port forwarding would be a great way to enter the 21st century.
Awesome news. Had a lot of fun with borderlands in a surprising "not on my radar but let me try out this game" kind of way
Only thing i particularly didn't like was that, playing through the game about 2.5x (primarily solo) i've yet to find "Awesome" weapons. Any new weaponry that i find is usually just slightly better then what i already have.
With the concept of "A bazillion" guns i was convinced by this point i'd have tons of weapons that had awesome damage and crazy elemental effects and perks that would make me feel like a bad ass and just make the game more fun on repeated playthroughs. Eh not so much. If memory serves, my main go to guns are pretty standard conventional guns with no elemental effects or crazy "perk"
Although i will say , i had a blast going through General Knoxx DLC with corrosive weapons. TONS OF FUN! Bought claptrap DLC primarily thinking that my corrosive weapons would be put to good use again being that claptraps are made out of metal right? Nope, not at all.
I just hope there's more guns to shoot more guys, Borderlands grew on me and I played most of it alone. Maybe they'll be a story this time.
Delivering a better story is good, heck any story at all is amazing in Borderlands. Now if they actually do a good port job to the PC it will seal the deal. Best news all week, and a day one purchase regardless of my requests being granted or not.
I fucking love Borderlands. I played through it multiple times with every character and have over 100 hours on PC easily. Once you learn how to use WillowTree (the fan made weapon/equipment modding/creation tool) you can burn an entire night just playing around with crazy combinations to see what happens. I rarely get so sucked into a game. I'd also like to point out that the soldier class was -not- the be all end all class. Any character had enough to make you insanely powerful.
Why the hell are you attacking me for wanting the single player component of the game to be improved? Jesus, calm down. All i am hearing is bitching and complaining.. What? If someone's aversed to playing online multiplayer, then yes, they can have a dislike for Counter-Strike if they think playing against bots is not fun. I don't play co-op but I still played Borderlands. Why did I find it boring? Well, guess what: different people have different opinions and likes. Several others in this thread have also said they found the game boring so my opinion isn't rare.Man counter strike sucks, the bots are just duuuumb as hell.
Both games have an obvious focus on the multiplayer. But what exactly was boring about Borderlands' singleplayer anyway? I did a solo playthrough and it went just fine.
Great cover and encouraging news about what Borderlands 2 will be like. If they can deliver a better story (and a more sensible ending) then it could end up being perfect.
one of the very few games I'd buy day one! I had a fairly serious addiction to Borderlands and I had to get rid before any DLC.
Might get the GOTY some time soon to play all the DLC.
Worth it?
i played borderlands as much as i've played any other game this gen. 99.9% solo.
the one time i went into the online MP i ended up with a shield that made me invincible and that i could not remove, thus permanently ruining a character that i had been using for like 40 hours.
my only request is that they somehow police the cheaters/hackers/modders and keep them from ruining other people's games. or eliminate any MP achievements, which was the only reason i ever even tried to play MP.

Definitely. I'd go so far as to say that General Knoxx is an essential piece of content. The game as a whole feels much more complete with it.
