Borderlands has possibly the best intro video of all time. What is your favorite intro video in a game?

I love the intro to Borderlands.

I also think that BioShock has one of the best intros ever, as you dive down to Rapture.

Other games of note are Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Prey,  Mass Effect, Resident Evil 2,  Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5, Shenmue, The Beatles: Rock Band, Final Fantasy VIII, and Uncharted 2.

Are we talking like the kind of stuff before title screens on games or does that extend to say the first few moments in a game that sort of gets the ball rolling? Because if it's the latter my choice has to be Prey, the opening events are amazing.

What I liked about Machinarium's was that it pretty much began seamlessly, and sent you right into the first screen once you started it.

I admit I was really impressed with the Borderlands intro. Mostly because I didn't know they actually licensed "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant. I thought that was strictly for trailers, but it added a lot to the style- not that Borderlands needs any help with style.

I'll have to think a little harder for my favorite intro.

Yeah, the intro for Borderlands brilliantly sets the scene and instantly gets you in the right frame of mind. It's just so kinetic and the music suits it perfectly.

I used to start the game over and over when i first played RE3, just to watch the cutscene again.

I see that at least 50-60 times every work day.  Also, that's not an "intro" video, but a "demo mode".

But...going along the lines of what you are talking about...

I think Left 4 Dead takes the cake on this one.  The demo mode video is excellently produced, and it adds more to the characters.  As a matter of fact, I will say that it is ESSENTIAL to watch that video if you want to know a bit more about the characters and the overall story of the game.  Very good movie indeed.

Bioshock also had an excellent one, just because of the drill going through that dood's hand!!!

Just bought this game and I loved the intro too. It was very well done, and pretty good song too! One of the better ones I've seen.

I hate Borderlands' because it is not skippable when starting a game.

Don't have the game, and it's not really great either, but from what i saw the Brutal Legend intro was freakin awesome.
There are a few others, but i can't think of them at the moment, i'll get back to you on that one...

    @CaptainObvious:
You should see the Company of Heroes one.

It might not be the best intro, but I thought CoD: Modern Warfare's cinematic set up the scenario quite well.
