First Person Shooting and Roleplaying at its finest!
So, there are games like Call of Duty 4 which have excellent first person shooting that feels really natural. Then there are games like Fallout 3 which have excellent RPG elements but fall a little flat on the shooting. Now, theres a game called Borderlands which combines those two elements to near perfection.
It might not seem like it, but that beginning paragraph really sums it up. Borderlands is about 4 Treasure hunters that are on a quest to find a mysterious Vault said to contain alien technology. That's about as far as the story goes...sadly. However, the game manages to stay entertaining throughout due to the excellent loot system and multiplayer. The loot system is actually governed by an A.I. that creates 'bazillions' of random weapons. When they say 'bazillions', they aren't joking...well, for the most part. Everyone that plays Borderlands will find many, many unique weapons that come with varying types of elemental damage, accuracy, manufactures, models, and more. This system is the most surprising and revolutionary part of the game.
The multiplayer is also top-notch as everyones' characters are persistant and can be moved from multiplayer to singleplayer and back seamlessly. All weapons, statistics, and customization is kept and saved throughout all characters' careers.
In the end, Borderlands does have some flaws. There is no trade system, so players can cheat others out of their valuables. The story is not impressive in any way. And the game shipped with a few glitches and bugs. However, when you put the gameplay, the rewards, and the replayability; Borderlands is one of the best games of the year and will keep players entertained for a long long time. This is one game you should not miss!
