Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Oct 12, 2018

The Call of Duty release for 2018 ditches a traditional single-player campaign in favor of expanded multiplayer and Zombies modes and a battle royale mode known as Blackout.

I want to have faith so bad but...

I've always defended Call of Duty, it became popular to hate on COD but i ignored the crowds in favour of continuing to enjoy the games, without my friends i should add because the hate bandwagon scared them all away from even trying the games, despite how much they like multiplayer shooters. I even defended BO4 initially, even though i like the single player campaigns, especially Treyarch's, and would miss it this time around, i thought "well if they're focusing on multiplayer surely it's going to be an impressive offering".
The first trailer showed us the return of specialists, which i really didn't like in BO3, their abilities add nothing but easy kills to the game and subvert any kind of balance, now with the latest trailer we have the impressive announcement of "6 maps"... and people thought WW2's 9 maps was meager... I'm assuming Zombies and Blackout will attempt to make up for this shortfall but i'm not interested in either of those modes, it feels like whatever happened with the single player situation, and Activision forcing Battle Royale into the game, have caused Treyarch to have to try and stitch it all together as best they can. Other issues i have are the new healing system which just means that sometimes you can't recover after a fight (till the booster cooldown ends), "armour" which means everyone is more spongey, and its exclusivity to Battlenet which i've never enjoyed using, there's also that whole Season Pass debacle, but i tend not to buy DLC for COD if the initial offering isn't good enough.
One positive, however, is that the PC version gets its own studio and hopefully its own balance for the first time in 13 years, balance in WW2 is a joke.

I'm trying to have faith, trying to understand what Treyarch are doing, but the negative announcements have stacked up so high it's kind of hard to ignore.

I'm not a massive fan of CoD, but it does seem that most of the hate comes from it being popular. If people don't like it, they can quite easily ignore it.

I quite like the campaigns in these games. They're fun, mindless and can be finished in a few hours. Infinte Warfare being the biggest stand-out in recent years.

The online multiplayer hasn't really interested me since MW2, but I find myself trying to play it because of the price tag. I don't like how the online progression is structured any more, with a focus on currencies instead of being rewarded specifically for the weapon being used. It sounds like a silly complaint, but it doesn't suck me in like it used to.

The Zombies mode has never apealled to me in the slightest. I've tried each version for about 30 minutes and never gone back to it.

Black Ops 4 seems like it will be everything that I have come to dislike about the series, in terms of online multiplayer, and it lacks the only thing that still keeps me coming back - the campaign.

I am completely out. I hope it's a good game for those that want to play it, though.

More like Black Ops 420 amirite??

I fell off COD ages ago. The multiplayer stuff was great when it was new. I generally liked the campaigns but not enough to buy the more recent CODS. What I liked about Black Ops was its Cold War setting which they went away from almost immediately.

I'm like 95% sure that the trailer was just talking about the maps in the beta.

Does it seem like they're getting their budget slashed, in the face of people going from disinterested to unhappy? I can kind of understand they they're trying to pursue a slightly wider audience with the changed they're making, but I've seen enough of posts like this elsewhere that it seems like the core base seems unhappy with these changes, or at least apprehensive. COD has been on a slight downturn for the last couple of games (I haven't played one since 4, I'm a Battlefield guy) but it seemed like the people who are into COD were still willing to shell out 60 bucks, even if they were pissy about future warfare. From the outside in, it feels like they're chasing Overwatch with heroes stuff and PUBG/Fortnite with the battle royale, in an effort to get that cash cow milking again. I had pretty much the same feelings about the new Battlefield stuff, where they're changing the game I liked to appeal to people that weren't willing to buy in before, and in the process lost me.

Maybe they're spending the money on the Zombies stuff and really doubling down on it? And Blackout, I don't know what that is though. (The battle royale thing?) Activision, if nothing else, seems like they're willing to back something that makes it's money back and COD always seems to do that, if not always in mountains of cash lately. Cutting themselves off this early seems like a real stupid move, so I have to assume the money is just getting mixed around more?

If you’ve liked it, keep an open mind without tying your happiness to it, or anything crazy like that.

I liked COD 1-2 as well as Modern Warfare 1-2. Haven’t enjoyed one since (I played the first two BlackOps games, but nothing since then).

My brother and I have gotten every COD since the first game. There have been ups and downs, and I mostly play it for the campaign. Despite the campaigns only being about four to eight hours long, maybe a little more depending on difficulty and game), I am totally uninterested in Black Ops 4. We don't plan on getting it. I've never been on the hate train for COD, but it's easy for me to disregard Black Ops 4. Also, I never finished WWII. The campaign was just super trite/boring.

After having snoozed my way through the story of Blops 3 (played it as part of PS+), I don’t actually miss the lack of campaign anymore.
