Valve Confirms New Counter-Strike for PC and...Consoles?
@Zippedbinders:
I believe he's talking about the fact that it's coming to XBLA, PSN and Steam and not in a retail box.

Man, this sounds amazing! Some day my dream of PC players creating and running custom servers for everyone, including console gamers, to play on will be a reality! Console gamers need to see what they're missing every now and then.
Woah, woah, woah. Hold your horses, pal. Who said there was gonna be user-run servers for the console versions? Was this announced? Because I HIGHLY doubt it. I don't think 360 or PS3 even allow that.

WOOO!!!! Turn Counter-Strike to another dumbed down slow shitfest FPS for the console mouthbreathers. If you think this won't be another snail-pace aim-assist ironsights shit console FPS guess again. You can't play a game like Quake or Counter-Strike on pads. Way to rape a classic Valve!
Wow. Took a whole eight comments from the top for me to find an angry dickhead talking out of his ass about a game nobody knows anything about. That's gotta be the longest it's ever taken. Way to go, internet.
This could be really cool. I like that it is a downloadable game on consoles. Hopefully this will mean a price of 1200 points or 15 bucks.. that would be pretty nice. Also, I would like it if they tried to make this a little more approachable to ordinary players.
Say what you will, but CS on a server with super-skilled hyper pc guys isn´t a lot of fun, since you wait a lot to respawn. A lot.
Can you explain how do you play a FPS without aim assist and ironsights on a pad.@Buckfitches said:
Excited!
Now everyone can move on from Team Fortress 2, thank god.
What do Counter Strike and Team Fortress have to do with each other?

Last time I seriously played Counter Strike was the time Internet cafes were popular, and having Internet at home was a rare privilege because it was expensive. About the time 1.6 started rolling out, Internet became kind of affordable, and neither me not my friends stayed playing CS because it just wasn't the same.
IDK. Is CS still a thing? Or do they just want to make it a thing again like the old times? Also, will it have hats? (if you answered Yes to the last question then the entirety of gaming is doomed.)

@Poki3: Both games are consistently in the top 10 games played in Steam so it still has some life in it.

New engine or just using orange box source?
Source engine, though I don't know if they've made any new enhancements since Orange Box.

CS and CSS are still two of the most played games in existence. http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ Nothing has ever surpassed them (in that style).

Source is a completely modular engine. Valve will likely not give up on it for an extremely long time. The Portal 2 version of Source is a vast improvement over the Orange box version (2007) which itself was a large upgrade over the HL2 version. Valve can keep updating Source to stay competitive, unlike other engines like Unreal. If they used numbers, we would likely be on Source 3 or 4 by now.
No interest in counter strike, i need more in a competitive shooter than running around a closed area killing other players
But this is good news for CS fans!

Yeah, quite a few, actually. Since the release of The Orange Box, we've had Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2, all of which look considerably better than HL2 "vanilla". Just compare Portal and Portal 2. The difference is mind-blowing. The Source engine is incredible.
Regarding CS:GO... well, I don't think it's meant to be a replacement of CS:Source as this was for CS 1.6. It's obviously geared towards the console market (which in itself is no a bad thing, since we already have CS:S on PC), so it doesn't really peak my curiosity. I'm fine playing CS:S for the moment.
Also, HL3 please.
Hope the console versions don't get abandoned like the TF2 variants! IIRC On 360 it was never updated because MS didn't allow free feature updates?

Really hope it's not like that crappy console crossover they made years ago. But a new CS will def bring back to playing it
Oh that was terrible. I don't know who was responsible for that, but I hope they aren't allowed near games again.
Every time I read a story on a new Valve game I have an internal thought process along these lines: "Is it Episode Three?" Nope. "FUUUUUUCK."
On a more related note, the last time I played Counter-Strike the other people on the server called me a 'fucking noob' because they had snipers watching every way out of the spawn that kept killing me. I did not enjoy it.
O fuck yea, CS was one of if not my first experiences in online gaming. Fond memories of those 5AM nights.
