    An unconventional Source-engine mod that features a melancholic atmosphere. Originally a university research project, it experiments by removing most typical player interactions, while seeking to still create a strong player experience. It was released as a standalone experience in 2012.

    Just played Dear Esther Land mark edition (it was on sale)

    I have to say I enjoyed my first playthrough . I guess I am five year late on finishing this game; but I held out for the landmark edition. I said, first play through, because just looking at missing Trophies (I know how glaceless of me to mention trophies), I see that there was more to see.

    This is what I think I know.

    Yeah, so I don't know anything, but I have questions. ;-) [Don't answer my questions, but feel free to say, "Hmmm, maybe not."]

    • Am I a ghost? Because I think I am already dead and in purgatory or this island is some bit of symbolic artifice.
    • The end of the narrative says I didn't write the figures on the walls, I did not paint the messages in english. However, it seems like many people, ghosts,have dwelt here for a time. But, was Esther part of my story or part of someone elses I am viewing? Am I reading a letter I found, or compsosing this letter????
    • So who am I? Am I the one who killed Esther? Am I , Esther husband of boyfriend when she died?
    • When you go the wrong way, fall off teh wrong cliff, drown in the wrong pool; the game seems to say not this time...until that game takes over for the final climb. Yet am I not already dead...so I teh fall the final release or the passing of a test?

    I don't really need the answers to these questions, I suspect nailing this game down to one meaning is not the point. I guess I leave this message off with, "Yeah, I enjoyed my first playthrough."
