I feel as if the last ten years of consistent and occasionally great Diablo clones have cheapened its return a bit.

Not to mention them replacing or taking out permanent skill and stat trees, and the item management not being grid based, the real money auction house etc.

The hard sense of finalizing everything about your character and the untrustworthy nature of other characters stealing loot kind of made diablo for me, especially since loot was such a huge thing. Maybe i'm the odd one but I played diablo 2 for half of my teen life, that game was incredible but 3 seems to be everything I don't want, and my interest for the game since it's launch is almost down to just about nothing, especially since replacements and clones for the game have released and surpassed it.

The reason Diablo III is so different from it's predecessor is that every loot grab Action RPG the past decade has been compared to Diablo II.  The game defined the genre, and while it may be easy to mimic the quality of such a game, Blizzard will prove it's difficult to match it's innovation.  Sure they could have taken the SCII route and given us a better looking carbon copy of the exact same game, but in this case, more people would be disappointed in the long run.  Everyone is copying Diablo II, Blizzard is breaking the mold and starting from scratch, hopefully forever changing the way we look at the genre once more.

i agree with above. there are reasons people call those games "diablo clones" because they can only imitate what Blizzard achieved with the diablo series. I would rely most on a company like blizzard to raise the bar, despite the decade others have had to catch up.
