Im not going to buy this game anywhere near launch (and certainly not at launch price) for philosophical, practical and economic reasons; but I will pick it up eventually when it`s 20 bucks or something like that.

Im in no hurry, but I wonder how long will it take for it to drop below 40, what do you guys think?

20 bucks for a relatively new Blizzard game will take a good long while.

Probably not for many years. Starcraft 2 still sells for full price. Since Blizzard is the only one selling it digitally, I don't see it changing.

You're most likely going to wait some time, Blizzard games usually stay in the high end of the pricing range for some time after release.

Digitally, probably not for the next few years and that's being pretty liberal.

Boxed copies (are there boxed D3 copies?), probably the same as the usual high profile game.

    There.

Under 20$ is not gonna happen this year or even next year. At best you can get a 10, 15$ off full retail price.

Diablo 2 is going for around 12ish bucks now if that's a worthy indicator.

I'm interested in how you tie in philosophy with this.

Also I wouldn't expect it to be $20 bucks until Diablo 4 comes out. Blizzard games stay expensive for years.

Even if you don't buy it from them directly it's probably gonna take years (just like everyone already mentioned). That's just the way they do it... and it seems to work out for them.

    Several years maybe.

Not trolling you either. Blizzard doesn't lower the price on their games until they've been out a really long time. Although they do make bundles often (like all the starcraft, warcraft, and wow bundles).

Look at the price of Starcraft2, then use that as a gauge for D3 pricing. If' you're waiting for it to be $20 then it will be a long damn time from the look of it.

I found SCII for$20-$25 off about 2 months ago - every Blizzard fan I spoke to said that was a great deal and that I should do it. Going by that logic: at least a year and half after the launch.

I would be surprised if it was for sale at a significant discount from a major retailer within two years.

You might be able to buy a boxed copy for around $40 during black friday sales events at the end of the year, maybe. Probably only if you're actually buying 3 games for $120 total or some similar deal. Below $20? Probably never, or at least not until 2015 when the D3 battle chest comes out with the original game and both expansions for $60 so that it's sorta kinda $20.

This, but let's not forget that Starcraft 2 still retails around $45 to $50 (Amazon & Newegg), so a substantial price drop (at least 33%) is still some time away. Look for sales during the holidays but don't expect them to hold through the new year.

You best bet is to hope from a random retail deal either in a shop of online if they overstocked or something. I dont really think this game is worth $60 for a 15 hour game that you grind through 4 times. Especially with torchlight 2 just around the corner for $20.

Sadly, it doesn't look like SC2 will drop anytime soon, either. It's going to be quite a while until Diablo III is cheap.

Basically never. At least not until after the second expansion. This is how Blacktivision operates with its main franchises. COD4 was still 60 bucks well after MW2 came out.

I buy most of my games cheap. I remember trying to play the waiting game with Starcraft II and the best thing that I could manage was 10 dollars off. You may get lucky, but evidence seems to lean towards "you won't".

I got Diablo 3 for £23, pre-ordered years ago off Amazon, precisely for this reason.

Dude I suggest you just bite the bullet and get it. The price of Blizzard games always stays high for a very long time.
