Giant Bomb Worldwide?
Screw this West/Beast blood feud, Drew is going... BIGGER!
Cool!
I can see why he needed to go solo for this. GB need him too much for Video Production and I don't think they could justify having a travel specific section (and funding travel expenses). Drew mentioned that the Iceland video was one of his favourites, and it is pretty great, so I'll be on board with this!
It still hurts that he's no longer at GB though.
Drew is going to be the Anthony Bourdain of VIDEO GAMES?!
No Drewservations
I am actually surprised this is game related, Drew just have never seen that into games to me. But that is cool, means I will more likely be into it.
I've seen a couple people saying this but I don't understand why. Just because he isn't into the usual AAA-stuff like the rest of the crew doesn't mean he's not into games. He grew up with games, learned to edit by cutting multiplayer matches of Jedi Outcast, got his first internship at a game company (Backbone) and applied for a job at a games media outlet -- knowing full well, much like Vinny, that he'd be making loads more money elsewhere with his skills. Add on that he's now spent the majority of his career covering games, so it's only common sense that he'd stick to a field he already has experience and credibility in. And of course, he's been a regular member/guest on GB where he always has input on games he's playing or aware of. So this impression that he isn't that into games is one I don't understand. He's definitely the most active outside his gaming hobbies of the crew and into the most obscure games (sims and strategy), but still very much into games.
I genuinely can't wait to see what he does. I know that seems like a redundant statement, but whatever.
I'm pretty pumped about this, usually when someone has left (really just Patrick and Austin during my time) I'm bummed out because I know that realistically I'm not going to go to where they are to see their content, even if I think both of them do quality work. With Drew I had kind of figured the same, that I'm going to miss him but had my doubts that I'd follow him very closely, if at all. Now if it is indeed something about travel and games then I will definitely give it a look, well I'd probably check it out either way but I have high hopes that I will be following what Drew does now and enjoying it quite a bit!
i'm very willing to throw in on this, drew's the best. but i think he may have been more successful with a specifically travel based web series. but kids love the games, and even though it didn't seem like it all the time drew must have, too. can't wait for the full reveal, though. i'm sure he's put his all into it and it's a passion project for him; very happy he has the chance to do this!
(or maybe this is a series where he just plays ffvi on the game boy micro forever, ala grown ups 2 podcast but slightly less insanity inducing.)
That is a GOOD-ass logo!
I just wanted to say this.

It could be a gateway? Engage with stories to tell that have an emphasis on videogames so he will actually gain a sizable audience base. I mean, if you or me started the exact same thing with the exact same quality we would have 0 viewers/subscribers. Drew already has a following that he may be just playing into right now. A few years from now he might expands to do other stories that aren't centered around games.
This being super assumptive that he is going to do videogame based stories across the world of course.

Isn't traveling around the world and EMBEDDING with indie developers Carla(Kara???) Ellison's thing? That's the vibe I'm getting from this, though I don't expect Drew to be the journalist himself considering his field of expertise.
Cara, and she hasn't been doing that for a while. She wrote up her experiences in a book and now she does contract writing for games. She worked on Dishonoured 2.
I wonder what the numbers are. They're not letters of the alphabet, since they go up to 41. They're not ascii character codes, they're too small for that. They're not hex numbers, since there's no A-F there. Latitude and longitude maybe?
It would be really weird if they were lat/longs, since they only go up to 41. They'd all be in north africa, the mediterranean, and southern europe.
So, I've never done a puzzle like this. If it is a puzzle. I'm guessing it's either nothing, or a really simple puzzle I'm just not understanding. I feel like I've never heard Drew talk about puzzles or math, so that would make this weird if it was a puzzle. But I can't stop thinking about it, so I'm going to write down what I found by looking at it briefly, and then step away from the computer because I have stuff to do today.
Anyway -- there are five numbers that each show up three times. So it seems weird if it's some direct number-to-letter cipher. Although, if we imagine the numbers non-contiguously represent letters, and just assign letters in order, we end up with this: gnmkqpmoc eblpkifomkhjdjnepoi qja. Which is clearly nothing, but a lot of cipher-solvers online assume you start with letters, so there you go.
I also just charted the numbers, to see if the chart looked like anything, it didn't (unless it's Drew on a horse). Anyway, that google sheet is shared, if you're curious about distribution or anything. Most recently I just tried doing the alphabet twice with the numbers, that didn't do anything either.
I'm probably overthinking it. Oh well.
Glad we're not going to have to wait long to find out more!
Be the gaming Indiana Jones, Drew
It is your destiny
These numbers are driving me nuts. Some random potential thoughts (all of which will turn out to be completely wrong, I'm sure):
1. I've tried looking at the pictures for which there are no numbers and cannot see any. I'm now wondering if those function as sentence or word breaks?
2. The numbers go up to 41, so a straight number to letter cipher is out. But that's only true if one thinks in English. Almost all of those pictures are in Asia somewhere. Is there an Asian language alphabet that has that approximate number of letters?
3. I seem to remember seeing somewhere a diagram of a QUERTY keyboard with the keys numbered somehow. Could the numbers correspond to that somehow?
Symbol looks kinda like the NATO star, with a d-pad over top. Wonder if that means anything
That was my thought as well. I'm hoping he'll explore the history of the world through military sims.
