Action RPG (Action Role-Playing Game), also known as ARPG, refers to RPGs (role-playing games) that use direct, real-time, reflex-oriented, action combat systems, instead of the more abstract turn-based or menu-based battle systems.
Archery is the practice of propelling arrows with use of a bow. Throughout history, archery skills have been used in both hunting and warfare. Today, it is also a sport and recreational activity.
Also called Diablo-esque or Dungeon Crawler ARPGs, this sub-genre was very popular in the 2000s and 2010s and spawned many successful franchises. Usually played from an isometric perspective focused on dungeon exploration, killing hordes of enemies, complex loot systems and creating different character builds.
Carefully exploring a large, labyrinthine area full of enemies (i.e., a dungeon) in the hopes of finding treasure, leveling up, or completing a specific task. Having their roots in tabletop games, video game dungeon crawls are found almost exclusively in RPGs.
The 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California on May 10-12.
Need a sword the burns your foes or a gun that zaps them with lightning? Then Elemental Weapons are the ones for you.
Experience Points are part of a character advancement system commonly found in RPGs. These points are generally gained by defeating an enemy or completing a task.
A recitation of spoken words during a ritual or summoning.
Collecting objects in a game such as weapons, armor, items, and currency. Loot is often associated with RPG games and MMOs with RPG elements.
Random Loot is a popular concept for dungeon crawler and MMO style games. In essence, monsters or objects drop something that is considered valuable to the player with random qualities.
Video game combat in which combat actions are performed in real-time, rather than through a turn-based structure.
Slashing weapons are designed to cut and slice rather than causing blunt trauma. Examples include swords, axes, claws, naginatas, or even whips.
Weapons designed to be wielded with both hands, typically due to their size in relation to the one wielding them. Examples include longswords, claymores, lances, scythes, and giant hammers among others.
Items found in video games that serve little or no use to the player, other than to be sold to NPC vendors for money.
