    Overview

Dyscourse is an interactive choice-based narrative adventure Role-Playing game developed by Owlchemy Labs. With the choices made in the game, the ending will differ. According to the developers, there is no "bad" and "good" choices.

    Development

The game was developed by Owlchemy Labs after a successful Kickstarter campaign which was active between November 6, 2013 and December 6, 2013. The campaign raised the minimum funding goal of $40.000 with $44.134 from 1816 backers.

The release on Steam was on March 25, 2015 and it is available for PC, Linux, and Mac. An additional DLC to the game is the "Special Edition" which includes all 77 soundtracks, the digital art-book of the making of the game, a wallpaper, and the Dyscourse development documentary video. The DLC was released on Steam on March 25, 2015.

The game contains more than 120,000 words of text with a typical playthrough seeing around fifteen percent of these. The game is played with keyboard and fully supports controller.

The game runs on Unity 5 Engine.

    Story

After a plane crash into an island, several passengers survive. We play the character named Rita who leads the group and makes decisions to keep as many people alive. Rita begins in the island alone and then meets other survivors and continues the adventure with them. During the game, depending on the choices, each character reveals their unique stories before the unfortunate crash.

    Gameplay

When the game starts, there are two islands type to choose from. The passport "Rita" plays the main game whereas passport "Indie Island" takes the player to the mini-story which is provided as a free DLC to the game.

After Rita wakes up, she realizes that it was a plain crash and starts exploring the area. During exploration, she hears sounds of people speaking. This is where Rita meets other two survivors. The aim is to make decisions and get out of the island. Alone or other people of your choice.

The game has day-night cycle, but the day does not have a static duration.

During the game, you will need to find food and water to keep them alive and fight with animals to survive. The choices are really important as the lack of food may lead to cannibalism or dead.

A normal playthrough lasts around 60-80 minutes to complete, but contains many hours of replayable content, which allows players to explore more of the overall “story” and learn more about the crash and their survivors. After completing the game for the first time, the player unlocks the "Day Rewind" feature, which allows players to go back to the beginning of the day.

    Characters

There are six characters in the game with their unique background stories:

Rita is an art graduate, Steve is a pessimist, Teddy is a conspiracy theorist, Garret a gamer, Jolene and George a couple with marital problems.

    Achievements

The game contains 31 Steam achievements and also provides Steam Collection Cards.
