I am disgusted at the nerve of Eidos. How can they do something like that, again?!
Eidos Interactive
Company »
Eidos was an English based developer and publisher behind such games as Tomb Raider, Age of Conan, and Hitman. Since a buyout from Square Enix, the company is now know as Square Enix Europe.
Eidos + Reviews = Magic
The industries dependance on scores sucks the leaves from the trees. Poor ol' reviewers having to score everything they play is also not exactly a megaton of yeah. People not reedn n shit sets them up for sizeable disappointments, although the review tried to tell them what's in it, they expect a giant 9.4758339 boner. In other news, there's viva pinata, ikaruga and bushes second burning bridges tour. confirm that what we think is good really lives up to our expectations but don't shove your fucking quirky tastes down our collective throat. power is not a one way street bitches.
As far as I'm concerned, no review should be put out before the game is released, in fact I think it SHOULD wait till a week after release. If you want to decide to get a game or not, download a demo if possible, or rent it. Or just take it back if you don't like it. It makes sense, I know a lot of people that put off buying games they now love because I got them to play it just because some stupid week early review gave the game a 7 instead of a 10. Reviews are obviously biased, and obviously only really work for you if the reviewing party agree's at least mostly with your tastes. For example, I pay little attention to the reviews Gametrailers puts out these days, but Giant Bomb reviews are practically stealing my words.
I stopped buying Eidos games a long time ago for 2 reasons.
1 most of them have sucked since the ps1.
2. crap they pull like this.
If they make agreat game I would have bought it and if it gets a low score It don't mean I won't buy it. It has been at least 3 years or more since I last bought a game made by eidos.
The Kane & Lynch pic for the story is just delicious.
I dunno, the first head-scratching marketing decision around this game was a PC & 360-exclusive demo. I mean, a demo is a promotional item whose purpose is to raise awareness and interest in the game. Limiting the access to it seems like a pretty dumb idea.
Jeff should review underworld, give it a 1 star and the only text reads "1 STAR, BITCHES, 1 STAR. WHATCHA GONNA DO? I'M THE BOSS MAN NOW YOU AIN'T GOT NO ADS ON MY SITE."
;)
But, yeah...Eidos sucks.
I'll probably still pick up the new TR game next year, once im done with all the other games in the pile ( and soon to get with christmas funds) cause to be honest , TR (since legends) has been a decent series for the company. The problem isn't with the Tomb Raider series, because it usually does sell well and gets decent scores. The problem is all their other shitty games they produce, and yes this includes the Hitman series.
They're just probably freaking out because since they havent put out anything really worth playing in the past while well... since Anniversary, they're doing shit so they can still say they're a decent company.
I hate Eidos. I would say that I am never buying a game from them, but they probably will make a game that will interest me.
And then fail. The Tomb Raider series has been bad recently. I miss the old PS1 Tomb Raider days. Don't even bother reviewing this game Jeff. If they send you a copy, send it back. And as a slap in the face, take a picture of you giving them the middle finger. That should let them know who they are messing with. =p
Didn't something happen with Kane and Lynch once upon a time? I guess Eidos should just stop making shitty games imo.
Grrr! Every time I think of what happen to Jeff at GameSpot about the Kane and Lynch game I get so angry! That's why I never visit Gamespot.com anymore, has anyone seen On the Spot? It sucks, so does The Hot Spot, the new place for game news and coverage is only at Giantbomb.com.
What is Edios problem? They need to make better games to get better reviews (duh)
Obvious answer to an obvious statement
Huh. Good post/story. This is amusing enough, I'm content to just watch crap like this go down and be glad our guys are doing alright on giant bomb these days and aren't mixed up in that business this time around. Screw that mess.
Honestly I'm not that shocked. I can understand a company wanting to make the game seem as positive as possible but if the companies weren't funding site's with banners and ads is there really anything they can do? Short of just not sending the game to a site/magazine for review there really isn't much they could do to demand a specific score. If they did stop sending them out, they are hurting their own brand names. Although Tomb Raider may be a poor example of this becuase it gets by on name recognition alone at this point.
Kinda-sorta unprofessional post from Guy followed by extremely unprofessional response from PR guy. Cmon, man! Of course every company does it, but you can't say it, silly goose! Good luck keepin' your job, buddy.
Seriously? Are we all still pretending to be shocked? It's like Eidos is the only one, they're all dirtbags.
Oh Eidos, will you never learn
