Just about to get this game for Steam, I noticed the mixed reviews. It looks like the "Standalone Expansion" Elite Dangerous: Horizons does have the entire game and more in what they call "A new season" of the game.

So my question is, does it make sense to get Elite Dangerous now, or should I better get the so-called expansion (or wait for a sale for it)?
