Hello Giant Bombers!

This is my first time posting in GB forums.

I was/am looking forward to the new Elite game. However when I found out that they were getting rid of their offline mode, I was disappointed. Not that the game's not objectively better online, I'm sure it is. I also pretty much agree with everything the devs say as an excuse to make it online only.

The problem is that my internet isn't good enough for online play. The last thing I want is to be in a dogfight, or be in some event or quest, or just plain be enjoying myself and then get lag or get dropped from the game. Even though I really want to play this game, I just don't know if I can play it.

So how is the single player mode? Does it lag or drop? My internet could handle some updates in the game, but I just need to know if it's going to be like a Diablo 3 style always online. Where even in single player you could get lag spikes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, solo mode takes very little data... Ctrl+b lets you monitor bandwidth, and it's usually 0 b/s, with up to 3 kb/s during transitions... I think npcs are spawned locally.

The total install is about 3.5 GB, and updates are incremental.

CEO David Braben has said that he is able to play on the train via his phone; someone else said that they used a total of about 300 k over 2 hours

I also heard someone say that they could only select solo mode rather than multiplayer because their connection wasn't fast enough, so that may be a restriction for you.
