Fable 2 is looking great but then so did Fable 1 opinions?
Fable II
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Oct 21, 2008
An action-oriented role-playing game set 500 years after the original Fable, this sequel starts players out in the role of a street urchin destined for greatness.
Will Molyneux Deliver this Time?
Hmmmm....I think if he is going to promise on all this stuff, he better do it this time. I really liked Fable 1, it did have some problems with it but It was a good RPG. Now if he were to do the same thing again, our view on him will be forever tainted by the fact that he is all talk and no go. But, I have a good feeling that Fable 2 will have the stuff promise because I don't he is dumb enough to do it again.
Time will tell, although I get the feeling that it will take a few weeks after Fable 2 is released. Since there is apparently so much to do (i personally cant wait to be a blacksmith), people will probably hold their opinions back until they have seen a good chunk of the game.
But the big thing that Molyneux is boasting, the dog mechanic, seems to be very good already. So he's at least got something right so far.
All the stuff he's talked about, he's actually shown in gameplay footage and there hasn't been any talk of having to pull things out that he's already talked about. I think he's finally done an excellent job about hyping one of his games without overbuilding expectations. I'm really looking forward to it!
Fable 1 was great, Fable 2 will be great, I doubt we'll be able to plant a seed and watch it grow-over-time into a full tree, in real time, but it'll still be a great game.
He seems to be really hyping the story, and that's about the only thing we haven't seen, so maybe he's learned and it actually will be amazing. Hopefully it turns out to be one of the best games this year.
The big thing that hit me with the recent E3 demos scattered around the net was when he said "in Fable 2 you can do <blank>", he then actually went and did it in the game, which I never saw him do with the first one. I still was a pretty big fan of the first game, so whether he delivers or not, I'll probably still end up liking it quite a bit.
I've heard really good things about it, but I don't think it will quite deliver. Some of their changes seem really neat, like the drop-in/drop-out co-op via orbs in your world showing where your friends are. Then again, some of the animations and Sims elements don't appear too revolutionary. I want to beat the original before I even consider trying 2.
"Yeah, going up against Bethesda on an rpg isn't easy.Thats a really good point actually... when the first Fable came out, Morrowind was almost completely inaccessible to most people, but the sequel is coming out to a world were everyone and his mother has played, and probably loved, Oblivion. It'll be interesting to see how their "choice filled fantasy RPG" stacks up.
"
While this is true, I think that most people wouldn't decide to not purchase Fable 2 in favor of purchasing Fallout 3 instead because the games are so different in personality and gameplay. Fable 2 has a more fantasy based setting and more gimmicks (no offense, but lets face it) which I happen to find just as appealing to the probably more deep setting and gameplay of Fallout 3. I'm probably getting both. Is anyone going to by one in favor of the other?
I think that so far, all of the crazy P. Molyneux stuff that he has talked about has actually been seen in game at one time or another. I think this game looks great, and I think that this might be one he actually pulls off. But, I think I'll keep holding my breath for a little while longer, just in case.
I'm not sure, from what I've seen I cant help but think of it as a generic hack and slash RPG with, well to be honest nothing really new. Yeah the dog seems great...I guess, people can jump into your game instantly...awesome? The whole good/evil morphing will probably end up little more than whether you grow horns or acquire a slight glow. Thats probably just jaded old me talking though, you never know. I still enjoyed the original Fable, but the guy talked it up to be the second coming.
I do think that should this game not be utterly amazing that Peter Molyneux should probably not be held in such high regard as he is now.
From the limited footage I have seen, Fable 2 is hitting on most of the points i had hoped Fable 1 would hit. The matter is, for me anyway, that i absolutely loved fable 1 despite all that it was missing. I see absolutely no way that I will not have an amazing experience with Fable 2.
More to the topics point (in an unbiased fashion) its a little hard to say if Peter will deliver considering the content we have seen, my guess so far is that Peter will finally give us the Fable he always wanted to give us.

I have to say, I thought the last Fable game was brilliant.
It really is one of the only games I go back and actually play through again.
That being said I would therefore be happy if they just expanded Albion and gave you a different story, they've obviously done much much more then that so I just don't think it's possible for me to be disappointed. For other people that could be a different story, so to reassure you if you think that person is you,
pick up a copy of the original Fable game and I think agree that anything Lionhead set out to do they accomplished.
Fable might not of had the best story, combat, universe or Characters, but there were all very good, not one element of the game is bad, annoying or makes you suffer in any way. And these are key to an action adventure game, and a sequel, it is far easier to make a successful sequel when you've layed foundations like Lionhead did in the origional Fable.
Therefor I think it would be at least hard to muck up a sequel to Fable.
Playing Fable was a pretty great experience, although it didn't find itself to be all that it cracked up to be, it was a very entertaining game for the Xbox. From what I've seen of Fable 2 and the actual game-play, I'm looking more and more into the fact that he MAY just have gotten it right this time, and either way, I'll be buying it day one to see if it either is a huge letdown, or a great success. We'll all found out then.
it will be awesome. mmo aspects with focus on singleplayer, the graphics are good and I think it will be a really prime example of a game done correctly. An interview with molyneux over at GT really got me excited for Fable 2. Even though it will be succesful, I still think it may end up one of the most overlooked games this year because of everything else being released. .
i hope it doesnt turn out to be like what happened to black and white,he turned a great game into a midiocare game...
As long as there is enough side stuff to do and get lost in for hours, I'll be happy. The first Fable was just missing variety to me, and it was a tad small of a world. Still, it's one of my favorite Xbox games, and I'm sure Fable 2 will trump the original in every conceivable way.
I had not been following preview coverage of Fable heavily before it came out, so I wasn't awfully familiar with the "letdown" it presented gamers when it "didn't live up to the hype."
Sufficed to say, I played it within the last year, and lacking such an aforementioned preconceived caution towards the game, I enjoyed it immensely, and would consider it quite an excellent experience.
So, whether or not Fable II lives up to ALL of Molyneux's sometimes outlandish promises, I have faith that it will be a very enjoyable romp.
