Great Co-op game, lacking Single player game.

F.E.A.R 3 or F.3.A.R as it is affectionally called by certain individuals (not me though), is the 3rd game in the Fear series. A series which has historically stood out amongst the myriad of FPS' out there by throwing weird psychological horror and supernatural elements into the mix.

F.E.A.R 3 is a definite step backwards in orginality, as that may not necessarily be a bad thing, but if you enjoyed the original F.E.A.R or F.E.A.R 2 then it is a not a given you will enjoy this game.

The main differentiator is that this game heavily promotes Coop play, and as such the single player Campaign is altered in significant ways. At certain points the campaign almost feels Left4dead esque in that it is so disjointed almost as if the developers didn't necessarily intend the "intervals" or levels to be played in chronological order necesarily.

This does not need to be a bad thing, but it does not help an already confusing as hell story, that if you are just jumping in to the F.E.A.R universe without having played either of its predecessors then you have no hope of ever understanding what the hell is going on in this game, that is not new to the series as it has been classic at not letting the player really know anything about what's going on, but FEAR 3 in particular you are just left to your own devices to figure everything out by yourself and it is not a given that at the end you will have figured out enough for the ending to be meaningful in anyway whatsoever.

If you are entangled in the FEAR plot and story however then the ending will still leave alot to be desired regardless, and the story as a whole is the definite weak point in this game. The gameplay on the other hand is perfectly fine, it has a unlock system where you get points from collecting random trinkets or kill 10 people in a row without taking damage yourself for example, the points give you experience which you use to level up and gain different perks like a sliding tackle melee move for example.

Which brings me to the combat, FEAR has traditionally had pretty interesting weapons but if there ever was a time to break tradition it seems it is now, as the weapons don't really feel especially interesting or inspired compared to the original shotgun that turned people into a cloud of blood or the raygun that turned people into burning skeleton. Weirdly enough this game has a shotgun and said raygun but the effects are toned down alot which is a shame as it helped keep the game memorable, heck even the nailgun has been downgraded which is borderline blasphemy.

The visuals also are servicable, they arent bad the animations are fluid and you feel like a badass when you active your trusty old slow motion mode and you start sliding everywhere taking fools out, but the artstyle is so bland if I had to describe it in one word it would be "grey". I know I should stop comparing this game to the original as that one definitively had its grey moments it had plenty of colour when appropriate. Also this game does not have destructible enviroments which makes the combat feel a little less chaotic and intense. Overall it is the graphics much like the game are okay, nothing really stand out of note.

So to conclude I find this game lacking if you are just in for the single player if you do have a good buddy who is also interested in the FEAR universe or Co-op FPS' in general you could do alot worse than FEAR 3, if you are just looking for a FPS single player experience then I would recommend waiting, unless you find paying 60$ for a 6 hour campaign that feels like it was made with Co-op in mind worth it.

Allow me to start this review with a disclaimer: I am not a hardcore fangirl for either Monolith or the FEAR series in general. I played both FEAR 1 and 2 and found them to be quite good, but I don't hold them up on a pedestal like many people seem to do.With that out of the way let's talk about FEAR 3 (I am NOT calling it F3AR, sorry :) ). Now, I had zero expectations going into this game. I had seen some of the trailers a while back and thought they looked interesting, especially the ones cove...

A must play for everyone who loves clever and fun gunfights in a scary and depressing atmosphere. Better than Crysis 2. 0

Disclaimer: this review contains comparisons with Crysis 2. If you don't feel like reading how bad your favorite game is, just skip it :)Let's first say that unlike what you may read on certain reviews, this game is scary as hell. The atmosphere is dark and creepy, there are a lot of dark locations, basements, old houses with spooky sounds (like footsteps on the floor above you) and blood and gore everywhere. Not sure what people miss on that front - maybe the shock scares when something jumps o...
