Ladies and gentlemen, a not-open ended Final Fantasy/JRPG!!!!
THE END IS NIGH, WORST GAME EVAR
Fuck this, non-linearity is more overrated than Call of Dooty

This Game Is a Disapointment!
Never had much interest in FF13, although i feel i might enjoy it somewhat more than dragon age's storyline. Not to say dragon age is bad, it just didn't really suck me in.
Then again, i've never finished a single FF game. Gotten to the last boss on quite a lot and just went, meh.
Oh, btw, fuck you very fucking much, GB. It would've been nice to know that those links were NSFW, morons. >_____>
Well hearing all this I'll just have to reset my expectations, not that FF13 was ever high on my to-get list of games, only non-remake FF I was ever able to finish was IX, but I'll get to it eventually.
Need to finish up XII now that I think about it, or keep playing VII on the PSP.
" Here's an image of the first few hours worth of areas. It's kind of hilarious, really. "What the fuck was going on, on the side of that website is what I'm worrying about.

He is just stating that he hasn't disliked a forum user until now and it's you and most people don't like you now because your opinions were very bias until now but it sounds like your one minute all against FFXIII now but sticking up for it. Dude I don't care how much posts your putting into this site but they now seem to be very biased and not what this site needs." I don't think I've ever legitimately disliked a forum user until now. Your threads are completely worthless. "Yeah well, you're new here and no one is making you stay here. "
How about we stop making our own conclusions about a game based off one persons bipolar thoughts. What exactly is wrong with the map path? You want more dead ends? Just walk into a wall for a few minutes every once and a while then, its the same effect.
Seems like everyone is saying the game is shit based off of nothing, every reviewer has given it great scores. So... yeah. One person who decided he didn't like the game because you walk too straight is not changing anything for me.
After reading this and other complaints elsewhere, I actually bought my ps3 just for a chance to play this game. I am dissapointed.
So if I wanted to be an apologist, this is where I would say "half a generation has past since the last real iteration in FF. Its safe to assume this will be the first entry for a lot of people and as you know, the thing to do when you want to make something appeal to new people is make it as condescendingly easy as possible. Right?

Look guys, I might be hated for this but what I smell here is a troll, and this is probably the only one who has pissed me off...ever.
Since when have people cried about an JRPG to be linear?! That is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard, Persona 4 easily one of my favourite PS2 games was so fucking linear it made kittens die but did that make anyone dislike the game? NO, and dont come up with crap about how Persona 4 wasnt linear because it was, just disgused.
Here is proof that the game is great -

and Famitsu gave it a 39/40.
looks like the Final Fantasy haters have arrived.

Get your self some Killzone 2, Uncharted 1-2 or MGS4.

People are right: your threads ARE worthless.
90% of the people in this thread are ignorant morons who clearly are not Final Fantasy fans. Final Fantasy games are not suppose to be non-linear, if you want a non-linear games play Fallout 3 or Dragon age. The purpose of a Final Fantasy game is to play the story of the characters, not make up you own story like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. If this wasn't the case, then it would not be a Final Fantasy game. Stop complaining about game mechanics which have been in almost every Final Fantasy game to date.
I'm not trying to offend anyone with this post, I just needed to answer the question or reply to a comment and that's the only way I could. No need to reply telling me how wrong I was, it was just my opinion and how I felt, which you can't tell me my feeling is wrong.
Have you played the game? No. Tell me more about why the person who has played the game is wrong, and use such legitimate outlets like fucking Famitsu and some game site nobody has ever heard of to prove it. You've got to be kidding." Look guys, I might be hated for this but what I smell here is a troll, and this is probably the only one who has pissed me off...ever.

" I think It looks fine apart from the summons turning into fucking motorcycles. Shiva turning into a fucking bike. Where did it go wrong. "...the Alexander one is stupid too. There's like no late-game stuff in the game that's worth doing...kinda a big disappointment for me.

" So can we go back to the CTB system now? Please? "Man, I HATED CTB, I just want the old ATB from FF4-FF9...how is that so damn hard to do? X-2, XI, XII, and XIII all made a "newer" version of it but I just want the classic ATB that they stuck with. It was perfect. FFX screwed things up with the CTB too..haste and slow worked like crap and it was too slow paced.
Because shitty FF12 had that shitty If / Then statement battle system which Dragon Age also used. It was shit in both games. The difference is that it was really the main gameplay focus in FF12 - ie. figuring out how you needed to set it up in order to beat enemy x - whereas in Dragon Age it was really only there for your convenience, you could pretty much just ignore it if you wanted to and still steamroll most of the fights.
The system is only trying to replicate the group dynamic from your typical MMO anyway, so I think crediting either of them for coming up with some groundbreaking gameplay mechanic is a bit of a stretch. TBH, I don't find programming the companion AI to be a particularly compelling mechanic anyway, so I'm glad they dropped it.
As for linearity; I don't think games need to be non-linear just for the sake of it. I like non-linear level design when it's about letting you choose how you want to deal with a particular problem (a la Deus Ex), but that stupid dance where you have to figure out which path is the main one, just so that you can double back and check out the dead-end for a chest or whatever adds absolutely nothing to the game other than frustration. If they've ditched that from FF13 then great. I do always like floating around on a world map going from one place to the next though, so hopefully there's some of that later on.
The first ten Final Fantasy games gave you full control of your party as it was needed due to the dynamics of the battles. Shit didn't start getting bad until Squaresoft merged with Enix. What fantastic games did Enix bring to the table?" @SuperSecretAgenda: The system is only trying to replicate the group dynamic from your typical MMO anyway, so I think crediting either of them for coming up with some groundbreaking gameplay mechanic is a bit of a stretch. Sexed Up Girly Fantasy X-2, Ridiculous Online Fantasy XI (I was 75 RDM, SMN, BLK, and WHM FML -.-), Offline XI Fantasy XII, and Pussified Fantasy XIII.
Since the merger, Final Fantasy games have been going downhill fast. Even storywise. Say what you want about Final Fantasy but FF4-FF10 had some of the most original plots in the industry. Shit, FFX was the ONLY JRPG in which the love story FAILS. Tidus doesn't get that hot summoner ass.
I will say that still having to load from 'explore mode' into 'battle mode' in 2009 is bullshit.
I don't understand why you can't just run around with your 3 guys (or however many it is you fight with) in tow, have the environments big enough to handle the battle in the first place and then just pop up the fight interface when you run into a mob. Like Mass Effect (just as an example), where it just switches up dynamically depending on whether you're in a fight or not. What is the benefit of doing it the FF way? Is it just because the fights get so ridiculous that you need the arena setting? The whole transition seems unnecessarily jarring and frustrating. I can't imagine it's a hardware limitation at this point.
