Poll Choose Your Inquisitor! *Multiple Choice Poll* (284 votes)

Human 46%
Elf 26%
Dwarf 12%
Qunari 22%
Male 35%
Female 37%
Warrior 32%
Rogue 29%
Mage 30%
Harry Hadden-Patton (British Male) 32%
Jon Curry (American Male) 18%
Alix Wilton Regan (British Female) 31%
Sumalee Montano (American Female) 7%

I had initially attempted to create a poll that encompassed every single variable as an available option... but as you can imagine that would have created a ludicrously long list. While I was initially game for the sake of thoroughness, it was starting to mount up and I figured a multiple choice format would make more sense.

Anywhoo, for anyone not familiar with the voice cast selection, Jon Curry should be most recognisable as Zevran from prior DA games, Alix Wilton Regan as Samantha Traynor from ME3 (amongst a couple of minor DA characters from prior games), and Sumalee Montano is probably most recognisable as the Southern Belle Female #3 voice for The Boss in Saints Row IV.

Harry Hadden-Paton I have no idea... This appears to be his first video game credit and his career more so spans outside in TV and Film. Though even in those areas I personally can't say I'm very familiar with him.

As for my own selection, I was initially tempted at the idea of making a female Qunari mage with Alix's voice, because you can't get any more niche than that! However I think I'm still going to roll with my own bias and once again kick off my first playthrough with a male dwarf warrior... maybe a rogue. Jon Curry will be my voice of choice as he's got some awesome cords down that throat of his. Plus, dwarves in this universe seem to all speak with an American accent so it would make more sense.

That said if I enjoy this game as much as I hope I will, then multiple playthroughs will surely be in order! Hell even DAII was able to score two playthroughs outta me. I attempted a third, but... I've had all the Kirkwall I can handle.

My first character is going to be a Qunari Warrior (most likely zweihandin'). Not sure on which voice I'll pick (can we even pick voices?), but I do know that I can't wait to get my slaughter on as a big ashen skinned oxman. Maybe the Qunari folk will have some pitch-shiftin' going on to make the voice deeper. I loved Zevran, but I'm having a hard time picturing that voice coming out of a seven foot Qunari warlord.

Standard British human male warrior first... then an American female...elven... mage? I'm not sure, there's too many combinations!

I have no fucking clue! I was an elven mage in Origins, and a human(obviously) rogue in II. I doubt I'm going to pick a warrior just because I usually find that a relatively boring class, so I'll probably end up going rogue again. I'm having a hell of a time picking which race I want, and I need to hear the voices before I chose between Curry and Hadden-Paton.

@oldirtybearon: While I'm not certain whether there will be a pitch slider or not, I have at least seen footage of a female Qunari warrior with Alix's voice and she sounded no different than usual.

@friendlyphoenix: While I typically scoff at Warrior/Soldier/Assault classes and find that usually they are the most bland, in fantasy games I always enjoy getting to equip myself with the heaviest of armour alongside a bitchin' shield. Plus, there's all the specialisations on offer that allow some added customisation down the line so you're not just some tank for example.

I read Harry Hadden-Patton as Harry Potter to begin with. If I ever get this game I will probably choose Harry Potter.

Right now I'm leaning towards British Female Human Warrior, mostly because that's what my Hawke was and I was completely enamored with her. I won't know for sure though until I actually start playing the game. Maybe I'll be feeling a bit dwarfish.

Probably a human rogue, as was my choice in origins. Boring? Maybe. But fantastic racism is for subsequent playthroughs. (Hopefully it will be good enough to warrant such). Not sure about voices yet.

I'll be playing a female elf rogue, specialising in Archery most likely. That's the kind of character my Warden was in Origins and I'd like to keep the tradition alive.

I think Sam Traynor's British voice would probably be quite fitting for an upbeat Elven rogue too!

A gruff, kinda dickish but with his heart in the right place Dwarf Warrior. Who has a huge thing for female Qunari, because those bioware 'sex' scenes.

My mind might change once I actually get the game, but I went with my gut for the poll and picked male dwarf warrior(can't decide on voice until I hear them more). That is also what my first character was in Origins and DA2(minus the dwarf part, obviously). I could end up going Qunari first since that is a new choice. Who knows, maybe I'll be in some weird mood and decide to go female mage first this time?

Oh, and screw shields, my warriors go with 2-handed axes/hammers/etc.

A British Male Quanari Rogue, because I always go rogue in these games and the Quanari look neat. American Dwarf Female Mage is probably play through 2.

In the first I was a Female Human Warrior, then in the second I played a Male Rogue. For this one I'll probably be human again, leaning towards female, and I'll either play a Warrior or a Mage. I'll probably change my mind once I get to the character creation screen though.

I was a female dwarf warrior in Origins and an accidental-carbon copy of a young Julie Andrews in 2 (again, warrior). This time around I'd like to maybe try being a female Qunari who is learning how to wield a bow.

That's a good point actually. Unless there's even more party members that BioWare have decided to keep hidden, it doesn't look like there's any dagger wielding rogue party members. The two rogues available are Varric and Sera, both of whom are long-ranged characters who specialise with a crossbow and a regular bow respectively.

I think I might go Dwarf Fighter with the American voice. I love how Dragon Age found a way to make their dwarves a little more unique (along with the Hindu caste system and the Ethiopian art and architectural design) and also found a way to take advantage of tons of talented American voice actors. I might go fighter because dwarves can't be mages (I demand they uphold kayfabe in this regard) and Varric is already a dwarven rogue. Also I probably won't like Iron Bull and I don't know who else is a fighter.

I guess me, my buddy Varric, the archer lady and the jazz mage. Romping across Orlais and the Marches.

Or I could always go city elf. My first Warden was a city elf, and I absolutely love the idea of great things from small beginnings. The hood boy who done made the world right is a trope I'm way into. Plus, city elves have American accents in kayfabe.

They really should have given you a French-accented voice. It's difficult to roleplay yourself coming from Orlais (which would be perfectly reasonable) if your character is speaking like Fereldans or Marchers.

@gantrathor said:

At this point, I've heard the "don't play human" or "don't play a fighter" stuff so much that I now play the more 'straightforward' options so that I have the unique experience. I feel like I passed the tipping point where the 'obscure' player options always seem to be the most common. Too many D&D games where everyone is the most convoluted race/class combinations and there isn't a 'straight man' for them to play off of. Maybe that just reflects more on the people I talk to.

I just realized that Cassandra must be a warrior because she has a shield. I always figured she was a rogue, because she's got the same gig as Leliana.

@brodehouse: There appears to be three warrior party members: Cassandra, who looks to be the tank, Iron Bull, and then there's Blackwall, who's also a Grey Warden so, that's neat. Our own wiki page details all 9 of the confirmed party members (as well as some of the supporting NPCs) if you want to have a gander at what's on offer.

I don't know, I think I'd have to get my hands on the character creator before I decide. I had tons of character ideas in Origins, but they often didn't make it past the creation screen, when I realized I couldn't make a character of a given race/gender that I could stand looking at.

Whatever it is, it will most likely be a mage though, as if my past DA experience has taught me anything it's that mages are way more fun to play than warriors or rogues. I kind of like the idea of a Qunari Mage (Saarebas), but from what I've seen the voice options seem way too normal for a good Qunari.

@yummylee: Weird. I don't know why they'd duplicate a character class like that when the Qunari is also a two-handed warrior.
