Pretty simple thread. What is the best 3rd person shooter you've ever played?
To me, it's Max Payne 2.
Regardless of the peerless presentation, Max Payne 2 still excels with its bullet-time gameplay compared to other shooters. Nowadays, every shooter has cover, but Max Payne never needed cover because of the bullet-time where you can go into slow-motion and target all your enemies without losing control like a quick-time event. It still has the best PAUSE menu ever. You never needed high-precision aiming or shooting over-the-shoulder, because it was all about creating mass mayhem with the updated physics engine. Max Payne 2 also had loads of enemy chatter and varying level design that never made this action game boring. Excellent pacing is the saving grace to a shooter where all you do is point-and-shoot. Stranglehold, a recent Max Payne clone, proves that there was more to Max Payne than just diving and slow-motion shooting. Stranglehold failed by having claustrophobic level design, generic enemies, and bad pacing, bringing into highlight how cloning game mechanics is never enough.
What's yours? And WHY?
