Dude plays a video game for 12 hours, dies.

 
The victim, identified only as “Moon,” started gaming at 2 a.m., took a break at 10:30 a.m. to get some breakfast, then resumed gaming shortly after. Around 2 p.m. he collapsed and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced DOA.

 
Family and friends described the man as “habitually played the online shooting game.” What specifically that is, no one knows. Cops are investigating the death.

He was probably asphyxiated by cigarette smoke.

It's horrible news,
but I think it was something more than just the 12 hour of gaming, humans can take more than that

don't they ever stop and think "yup, something don't feel right here"

A combination of factors.

There has to be other factors to this case. You can't just die from playing a game for 12 hours. Maybe he was very unhealthy before he started this gaming session and this 12 hour binge just pushed it over. He could have started playing after not sleeping for 72 hours. We don't know until the full report. 

Korea? No surprise there. But I agree there must have been other factors.

Moon?  Sure hope it isn't the Warcraft 3/ Starcraft 2 player.

He possibly had some pre-existing condition with his heart. I'm sure some of us have had very long gaming sessions close to this mark, and while it didn't kill us, I can say in my experience it sure as heck felt like it would. It's interesting when you're caught up in a game, and I mean really caught up in it, you become oblivious to things like your body's nagging need for sleep.

Yeah, that's a relatively short stretch to just drop dead of a heart attack. I mean, I've seen this before, but it was normally on 48 hour runs or more. 
 
Then again, he started playing a 2 AM, stopped for lunch and went back. Who knows how long he'd been awake before that and how often he pulled this kind of thing. 

Strange but seems accidental about it involving games. Know I lost days playing wow or other games on the 360 playing most of a day to get through it, esp. with something from gamefly & trying to get through it to send it back. If in Korea he might have included something regional in his breakfast that is just not good for anyone to eat.

Clearly something was wrong there, because I've played ME2 for longer than that in one sitting. Then again I also eat, drink and smoke plenty for sustenance. Also why does this always happen in asian web cafes and never anywhere else? Do their computers emit gamma radiation or something?

He probably felt like shit, ate, then the boost the food gave him made him feel like getting back on the saddle. But that boost is very short lived. If anything, the food gave him a false sense of "everything's okay". Basically, I'd be surprised if his death was related to the contents of his meal. I'm still more open to the possibility that this was his body having a negative reaction to the lack of sleep. Still, I won't rule it out. He could have had an allergic reaction to something in the food. For now it's a Robert Stack Unsolved Mystery.

12 hours is nothing, there has to be more than this bullshit.

Something doesn't add up here. The guy sounds like he had an addiction problem but 12 hours of play with a meal in the middle doesn't kill people, not by a long shot.

There had to be another reason. Playing a game for 12 hours wont kill you. You can easily go more then that time with no food or water. And people often just sleep all day. Which is no real difference. 

I'm pretty sure I've played games for 12 hours with some food breaks and stuff inbetween and not died as a result so this seems odd. maybe some other health factors contributed.

i think he might have stayed up longer than 12 hours. i find it funny that he played at 2am until 2pm then died. i've played wow for like 19 hours i think. i played it for a couple of hours man.
