Fat people avatars/games.

I just wanted to know if it bothered anyone else that you can't be fat in most games. It seems lame to me that I can't be a big dude in a game (rock band as an example) or mii's. It isn't that I think it's discriminatory or anything like that, I just wish I could be a bigger dude. I hope that's an option in the 360 avatars, but I won't get my hopes up.

i meant in a game that isn't using the character size as an issue in advancing, like rock band, or wii sports, or some avatars, do you see? i know in a game like san andreas the ideal is to be buff and trim, i didn't mean make big dudes the best thing to play as, i understand the shortcomings of being overweight, i have plenty of personal experience in that.

Well considering the majority of people on earth are average sized, I dont see you playing as an obese person. Especially if they are running around shooting heads of people, etc.

again, in a practical game situation, i see the downside. I mean in a more casual game sense.

It would also he hard character model wise, You could just imagine how hard it would be for them making all the clothes work without glitches and whatnot on a fat character in Rock Band, or jumping around and bending over on stage and whatnot.

It doesn't really bug me because I'm a skinny dude, so my avatars are usually skinny.

I dunno...cause being fat is not I guess looked upon as being a good thing.  I do think guitar hero for example how everyone is unnaturally skinny in odd places is very responsible for example.  Look at this picture below.  If anyone went walking around looking like the lead singer in this game they would obviously be admitted to a hospital.  Same with the bassist.  I am not saying that this game is quite a bad influence but it is an influence none the less in that the more you play it and the more you are exposed to this the more it becomes that desired norm or what have you.

There are games like GTA, Elder Scrolls and others that let you be bigger but I really don't think developers should swing on the otherside of what guitar hero has done either in that they are just going to let you be morbidly obese.

Well don't worry, in Home you can make your avatar as big as you like (to an extent).

In reality, it's probably because of clipping issues.  You can easily adjust tallness, but if you allow people to largely adjust width, you have to redo tons of 3d art assets to compensate.

Part of it is just the image thing of showing people who are extremely beautiful, skinny and have big bewbs.

I can't see why it can't be programmed in, maybe there's not enough demand for it?

I don't mind a little unrealism, especially in a casual game. Just there has to be some stopping point: a 1,200 lb. person would be too unrealistic doing anything.

I'm all for it, I just hope concerned parents won't complain that "it'll make the kids want to be fat"

I thought gaming characters are like a model of what we would like to be, not what we are, of course if a game has the option to create your own character, it should be obvious that options to modify one's weight should be there...

Luigi can practically fly in Mario 2, though.  That's all because of a strict diet of kale and a regular exercise regimen.

BTW I agree with you. The whole deal with the so called avatars is that you can recreate yourself, and if you can't make big characters, some can't recreate themselves.

I guess maybe there could be clipping issues, but Saints Row seemed to nail it pretty good. In Saints Row 2, you'll be able to be an obese dude... with boobs... in a banana costume... CRAZY!

My character in Saints Row was a fat ass with a handlebar mustache and a purple suit. Needless to say, it was awesome.

play fat princess whenever that comes out to get all of your fat game character needs

I got "overweight character" approved (fat seemed too mean and could be mixed up with "phat", obese is when you're really overweight, so I went with overweight). I put a fair number of characters in. There's some games and related concepts.

In my humble opinion Instead of trying to feel proud about being fat, you should try to lose weight and get healthier... it's better for everyone.
