Wondering what your guys' favorite controller of all time is. NES? Sega Dreamcast? PlayStation? Wii?
What?
Favorite Controller?
I really like the feel of the 360 controller.
The PS3's Analog sticks are just kind of awkward, but it's Dpad is much better.
Even though the console itself is flawed, the Xbox 360 controller is absolutely brilliant. Right analog resistance, and great button placement. Two triggers on the back, above are bumpers which also have good resistance. The only flawed thing on this controller is the D-Pad.
i'm gonna go with gamecube, i got small hands so it works perfect...although it needed a left bumper (not sure what to call it though they used up to z....)
I love using the 360 controller so much that I now play all my third person shooters on PC with one.
But the D-pad is terrible, I hate playing Street Fighter games with that thing.
The Gamecube controller is a close second, probably because the C-Stick grip on it felt a bit nasty to me.
The 360 controller is awesome, but I've grown so used to the Playstation one that I much prefer it now. Though not the Sixaxis, just too light the Dualshock 3 is much nicer.
Call me crazy, but I actually think I liked the N64 controller the best. It's definitely not the BEST controller, that's probably the 360s, but I just feel the most comfortable with the N64's.
Gamecube controller. Everything was placed in the right place, the ABYX buttons where all situated around the A button and could be accesed with a simple roll of the thumb. It was ergonomically pleasing to hold and the shoulder buttons where perfect. Only gripe was the D-pad but that is still better than the XBOX360's one (which is pretty shite, lets be honest- the D pad not the controller itself)
This gen it would have to be the the 360's it excels in almost all the same places as the gamecube other than the ABYX layout as well as the crappy Dpad.
For me it depends entirely on the game.
FPS, Third Person, Driving, sports, action etc 360 controller
Fighters - Used to be PS2 controller, now it's an arcade stick.
Platformers - Prefer them to be in 2D, other than that I like a nice d-pad so I suppose PS controller.
Strategy - Gotta be a mouse, and a nice one too not the shitty one I have, controller just don't work imo. It's playable, but nothing like a mouse.
Although, for one specific game (Soul Calibur II) the gamecube controller is the best thing ever made.
The 360 controller, followed by the Gamecube's (I love my Wavebird!). The PlayStation's would be fine if not for the awkward sticks. I like something to grip on the stick, and don't care for the side-by-side feel. The 360's d-pad is horrible, though. Can't believe they haven't fixed it yet.
I can see if your hands are ginormous, but the stretching needed to go between the start button and black and white is a little much. The whole thing looks like a monster, with its fangs out, ready to attack your hands.
The 360 one easily, the shape just fits perfectly, good triggers, everything is in the right place..
Only thing keeping it from perfection is the d-pad.
The Gamecubes was also surprisingly comfortable, despite it's odd looking design.
My favorite is the 360 controller. I don't have any hate for the Dual Shock, but the 360 has better analog sticks, better placement of those sticks, and better triggers. Also it defaults the firing of weapons to the triggers not the shoulder buttons like on the Dual Shock (I know that's a software thing, but still it irritates me.) Everyone complains about the D-pad and rightly so, but since I don't play fighters on the system, except DOA, and precision's not terribly important there, then I don't have to worry about it too often. The 360 controller has a good weight to it as well. The Sixaxis feels like it will fly away, and while the Dual Shock is heavier, it's still feels flimsy to me.
My other favorite is the Wico Command Control Joystick Bat for the Atari 2600. The think was built like a tank and never broke despite putting up with years of kid-vs-game aggression.
360 controller is pretty good. Other controller I thought was really good was the Logitec PS2 wireless controller, that thing really work well and felt better then the Dual Shock 2.
Agreeing with the majority of posters, I believe the xbox 360's controller is ergonomically superior. That D-Pad though...wow. It's like having cellulite ridden thighs on an otherwise perfect body. What a turn off.
Out of curiosity, would anyone be willing to shell out $50 (or whatever the standard controller price is) for a 360 controller v2.0 with some sort of better d-pad design?
I really love how lightweight the PS3 controller is, but the 360 controller is my favorite, hands down.
