Zelda: Spirit Tracks. If you've played it, you probably know why.
I also bought Trine on the last Steam sale and absolutely despise it. But generally, there aren't many games I buy and never intend to eventually finish.

I've got a large backlog but those two games are the ones I am 99% certain I will never finish. They require too much time.
I'm just sticking to this gen.
LA Noire - By choice, at this point
Burnout Paradise - I've really never been able to get into it
Call of Duty: Black Ops - I just can't force myself to finish the campaign.
Super Meatboy - Let's face it. It's probably just not going to happen.
Man. Looking at my games has just reminded me how many games I need to START! GAAAHHHH!!
@xobballox: If I remember, that's a lot of gameplay to put up with for the game to become good. I played a fair amount of that game and it never got good. I can't remember f I got to be a Jedi, but it was enough time that I could say without feeling bad "Wow, this game is bad, and probably not worth powering through to get to the 'good' parts". I didn't find it nearly as engaging or enjoyable in gameplay or story as I did Dragon Age. Maybe someday I'll find a new copy and try again, but... meh... I dunno that anyone can really get into that game if they really dislike it from the start.
I'm never going to say never, but these are games I probably will never beat.
Lost Planet
Forza Motorsport 2
Gran Turismo 4
Final Fantasy 12
Guitar Hero Aerosmith
Star Fox Command
Super Mario Galaxy
Need For Speed Underground 2
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
That's about it. I'm really on the fence about Dragon Age Origins - its combat is horrible but its story and characters are the most interesting cliches I've ever come across.

...It was short, ok! Don't look at me like that!
(Damn my completionism.)
Well, I didn't particularly dislike it from the start, but it got to be a bit boring towards the end of the planet. It is quite a big chunk to go through. I think it took me about four or five hours to complete that part and twenty-seven to complete the game. I absolutely loved it. Very amazing for a game that came out in '03 (I think it was '03...).@xobballox: If I remember, that's a lot of gameplay to put up with for the game to become good. - I played Phantom Hourglass and feel like I know why. I did eventually finish that game though, somehow.
- I also, if not in the beginning then about halfway through, started to hate Trine, but I also finished it...
...It was short, ok! Don't look at me like that!

Phantom Hourglass was okay, really underwhelming for a Zelda game but not offensively bad or anything.. Spirit Tracks had a really cool concept, but is still very mediocre. My real problem in the game was the musical instrument, which is very difficult to play and is 100% required for getting through the game. I couldn't even finish the tutorial!
I can see why some people like Trine, but I just found it tedious and extremely frustrating. When I'm not enjoying a game to that degree, I'm not going to finish it. I don't know why some people force themselves.
@WinterSnowblind: I finished Trine in basically one sitting. like I said I was bored with it by the halfway point, and had I quit then it would still sit on my XMB unfinished and bothering me instead of being deleted and forgotten.
I think the feeling that you have to finish something to be able to move on is pretty common, though I've lately been able to let go of some of my longtime backlog games by deleting them off my GB "Backlog List". Not seeing them all the time certainly helped putting off the pressure and helped me feel like I could just finish them whenever, or not.
As others have said, way to many on Steam. Mainly from package sales or weak will power. As for my shelf, Beautiful Katamari, Lost Planet, Alone in the Dark, Blue Dragon, Fracture, The Club and Prince of Persia 2008.
Dragon Age: Origins, Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Lost Odyssey, L.A. Noire and technically, Borderlands.
DA:O just... it's not my game. And I'm playing it on the Xbox. B&K just got reeeeally boring to me. I just want to build stupid vehicles and do stupid things with other people. Lost Odyssey was an instance of me just burning out halfway through the game and realizing I don't care enough about that style of JRPGs anymore to bring myself back to it. And I sunk so much time into Borderlands when it first came out, that after I picked up all the DLC, I just never wanted to play it again.
Which is pretty much the same reason I won't finish L.A. Noire. I waited so long for all the DLC so that I could feel like I was getting a 'complete' experience, with them worked in and everything, that I just grew farther and farther from the gameplay mechanics, to the point where I just don't really ever want to go back to it. I will eventually, but man. In hindsight, the zeitgeist that was this game is just astounding, because it's kind of mediocre adventure game with a cool aesthetic, and that's about it.
I had the opposite reaction to Demon's Souls. Once that game told me it wasn't going to roll over, I just got all the more addicted. So fun! I have to admit, though, I probably wouldn't have beat the last boss without summoning some other badass players to help ;)Pretty much all my Steam games. I... I just can't resist when you sell me a great game like Dead Space for 5 bucks. Of course I'll buy it! Never mind I've already played through it 4 times.
In terms of console games... fucking Demon's Souls. I bought the Special Edition. I'm never getting past that first level. It's just not going to happen.
@PeasantAbuse said:Agreed! It's really, really good after the first little hurdle. I also got it in the Steam Sale, played an hour and then left it alone for about a month. Picked it back up and sunk about fifteen hours in two days. Great game.Probably KOTOR. Bought it during the Steam sale and it's not very fun so far.Get past the first planet if you can. It is pretty boring, but as soon as you become a Jedi it is SO fun. I also bought it during the summer Steam sale and LOVED it so very much after that first planet.
I'm usually pretty good at finishing games, but I'm finding it kinda difficult in putting Fallout: New Vegas in the ol' 360 and playing ClapTrap Revolution for Borderlands.
L.A. Noire. Nier. Eternal Sonata. STALKER. Last Remnant. Fallout New Vegas. Dragon Age II.
There would be a bit more if it also included games I would finish, but would take years before I do so.

I do not agree that it gets much better after the first planet. The settings become much more interesting, but the gameplay still kind of stinks.
I'll probably never finish Rogue Warrior, Oblivion, or Morrowind.
Turok (360).
New Vegas (huge Fallout overload during my time with Fallout 3. Not sure I'll ever actually play this, much less finish it).
Dragon Age.
Amnesia (I get too scared or can't do the puzzles), Mass Effect 2(So boring for me), Fallout New Vegas(Again, bored the hell out of me), Thief: Deadly Shadows (I suck at it)
I'll never finish Lost Odyssey. I was forty-hours in when my hard-drive somehow misplaced all my saved games. It was super lame.
I don't have any games that I will never finish. If they are wasting shelf space like that, I get rid of them. I am not a collector, because I won't get to keep any of this shit when I'm dead, buried in the ground, so I'd rather spend that money on food or family where it's needed most. I finish all of my games or I return them.
I probably won't finish Blue Dragon (ever). I'm still on disc 1 and not seeing a bright future for the rest of the adventure.
Halo Wars was given to me for free, it's still in the plastic wrap.
Lets see, there's Fire Emblem (GBA), Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm (PS3), I think that's it surprisingly.
I understand Mass Effect 2 and not playing.
Fallout: New Vegas, and Dragon Age: Origins. Every time I get far in these games, I end up wanting to make a different character!
Most likely Persona 4. I am about 40 hours into it and I don't remember most of the specifics. I don't want to jump in when I don't remember a lot of it and I'm too far in to ever start over. It'll probably just sit on my shelf... I might re-watch the P4 Endurance Run though.
Eternal Sonata. Pro tip: don't buy a game based on how much you enjoy the soundtrack. Especially if it's some shitty JRPG with pedophile undertones.
L.A. Noire. I really liked the setting and some of the characters, but by the time I got to the arson desk I found the gameplay to be incredibly boring.
