Nice , HZD isn't my game of the year but maybe it cracked my top 5, and def top 10. Love the list Rorie
Rorie's Top 10 Games Of 2017
You should really work on getting over that hump with Divinity 2 and The Witcher 3, Rorie.
I get were you a coming from, time being of concern for ridiculously huge games like that, but still. You don't have to do everything/use every option available to you in those games, just play them any way you like and you'll still get something great out of it.
Can someone please love Nioh? Please? Hello?
Look for it in Jason's list!
@merxworx01: Thank you. I never knew I needed this.
I know it's kinda petty, but the facial animations in non-main quest stuff in Horizon is super duper distracting. Like, I actually feel like I should look away or just focus in on the subtitles, they're so stilted and awkward. But man the thing just didn't click for me. I'm only a few main missions in, and I've read the main quests all take the story forward each to a surprising degree, but the gameplay also isn't quite hitting me.
Some of the big robot fights were exciting enough, and sneaking through a human camp was fun (as always), but the feel of it all is a bit off for me. I've been just levelling up to get things like the variable dodge distance and stuff like aiming on tightropes or whatever, stuff that'll hopefully make things feel a bit more... robust I guess? But I can't imagine it won't still feel a little clunky.
Maybe making more use of the slow-mo and the slide'll help. I think I'll take a break and give Nier a shot though.
Nice reminder for Mr. Shifty. Hotline Miami 2 is an all-time favourite, so anything similar is worth checking out in my book.
Real crazy to see so much love for Assassin's Creed. Not saying it's undeserved or anything, just didn't think they could pull out something noteworthy again. In retrospect I shoulda know better than to bet against the Black Flag team, especially considering Black Flag is also an all-time fav of mine.
So I just put a solid four hours into Horizon Zero Dawn between yesterday and today, and I really dig it so far.
Glad someone else rated Horizon as highly as I did. It seems that game is striking a chord much more with players than critics looking at the comments sections on sites and readers' lists.
I am amazed it's not talked about like Mass Effect and Witcher for it's story and world building.
The moment when you hear the logs of the soldier fighting the war and his wife will stick with me for a long time.
@rorie I think you'll like Prey more the further you get into it -- at least I did. It keeps ratcheting up the story before the end and has a well-made ending. It went from being a shoe-in top 10 for me as I was playing it to my #1 game this year when I finished it. Horizon was #2 for me. When I go from playing a game like Prey or Deus Ex to almost everything else that has very little interaction with the environment, I feel a little let down.
