Summer Games Done Quick Jul 26-Aug 1st [Discussion Thread]

Whatever it is that we decide to go for as a community effort, let's set up some ground rules:

1. It should be something that is seen frequently.

2. It should be for something that happens during one of the longer streams.

3. It should make some form of sense for Giant Bomb to be involved with (Robo named RyanD, and a Yoshi named after Jeff were PERFECT)

I ask that we consider these, because I still remember that last time, we were involved in a bidding war to get the main character for Morrowind named "Air Force Gator", and this went against all of three of these: That run lasted about 20 minutes, you NEVER saw the name of the character after it was typed in, and I don't think anyone from Giant Bomb gives a shit about Morrowind. It was very poorly thought out.

So, let's come up with something awesome and throw a dumb amount of money at it!

I think we should name Link from Majora's Mask "Gerstman". That's the max length of the field. Could also go with "Ryckert".

Let's just do Majora's Mask 3D File Name and let's start ASAP. Someone ask @danryckert what it should be, Gerstman or Ryckert. He'll know what'll be funniest and help us rally.

Also we should consider doing something for Austin Walker instead.

I remember in one of the Breaking Brad Bloodborne streams Austin mentioned that Dark Souls 2 was his favourite of the series. In lieu of Austin still being relatively new and as a belated birthday gift, I think we should get the character named Austin (if that's donation option).

It would be great if we could get them to get the Ryan achievement in Roundabout but I really doubt we can make that happen.

There's already a RyanD submission for Robo's name again for this upcoming Chrono Trigger run. I wish there was an Epoch name option though. I'd love to see the 2poch again.

I have sent a donation with a donation incentive request to SGDQ:

I wonder if it's possible to add a donation incentive for Roundabout.

The incentive would be to have the runner achieve the "It's Tuesday!" achievement during the run. The achievement is earned by just standing still for a minute at the Ryan Davis Memorial statue on the island at the bottom of the map.
While standing still might be antithetical to speedrunning, this time could be used to read more donations!

The suggested donation goal for this would be no less than $1979
This should galvanize the Giant Bomb community and give them a common goal to donate towards.

Necessities:
- A steam account with the game but not the achievement.
- A minute to spare (shouldn't be more than that since you have to visit the island in one of Disco Sylvain missions anyway).

I love this one. Please do update the thread if it gets accepted as a donation incentive. I'd gladly give to that.

I feel bad for this guy because his twitch account was shut down after this and he's getting made fun of big time by the internet. BUT, this was one of the hardest streams to watch. I had to go get food just so I could look away from this train wreck. Also I'm pretty sure he was kicked out of the event as he was delisted from his next few scheduled appearances, but I'm not sure.

Also the RE4 stream was incredible. Hope someone uploads a highlight of that soon. Let's just say once Krauser comes onto the scene, shit gets patriotic.

Man, the twitch chat when that woman was going through Silent Hill 2 was fucking asinine. Goddamn.

I expected it but man it was wack. Now they are making fun of the announcer for his stutter.

I watched through 99% of the ESA and the chat was pretty chill. This chat seems to be filled with immature assholes trying to be the center of attention. A little disappointing. At least these streamers can't see the chat(I think) like the ESA streamers could.

Every runner I've seen talk about it prefer ESA, but for some reason they get like a tenth the audience of GDQ. But that is probably why their chat is som much better.

Anyway, use the quakenet chat instead on gamesdonequick.com or explosiveruns.com for GB folk.

@n7: Yeah I think that might be a bit harsh. He was real cringe worthy but he should have at least just got pulled aside and warned instead of just booted.

@demoskinos: I'm watching it now, what did he actually do, like yeah he kinda is a struggle to watch but has he said or does he say something a bit out of line?

They should probably just screen applicants the same way people get screened for the Price is Right.

@n7: It would be pretty terrible if his Crash 2 speedrun got his channel shut down and him removed from the event. I mean it wasn't great but that would be a ridiculous response.

Monkey Ball is ago, always a fun one; Tetris in 2 hours.

What's the context on the Crash 2 run? I had it on but muted while doing some other stuff and I kept wondering why he died so often. Is the game this hard? Is it a strat? Is he just trolling?

Can't wait for Tetris, last year (or was it AGDG?) was hype as fuck.

Tetris is about to start, these segments are always worth watching.

The Tetris block was crazy during AGDQ so I can only imagine what they have in store for us today.

More craziness, as it turns out.

The runner explained that it is faster to die and get a game over after collecting all the crystals in a level than complete the level via the exit portal as the game keeps crystals in your inventory upon continuing. Neat idea but makes for a really lame speed run (especially since that guy kept repeating the "I'm committing suicide" joke over and over).

RyanD for ROBO!!!! It's the finale, and one of the few bids that jumps out. Im gonna be putting money on that ASAP. Ryan's name and memory must live on, i still miss him to this day, and we should show the community's love for him.

Watching the Kirby run by BBQsauz, it's awesome. Good commentary and couch guests. Chat is fucking awful, and it's even worse since there's a girl on the couch.

The Kirby Tilt and Tumble run was really cool. I had no idea you could play it on a Game Cube by tilting it.

Well I think that if any of you want to achieve one of the the goals it's going to take a full-on attack on the Chrono Trigger Robot name.

Half minute hero was alright as well, so much shit to keep track of in that game.

What the fuck Zelda second quest... what the fuck.. I love those ridiculous glitches.
