Leading a panel at BlizzCon this afternoon, Blizzard creative VP Chris Metzen just announced that Tricia Helfer of Battlestar Galactica fame will be the new voice actress for the Zerg's Queen of Blades herself, Sarah Kerrigan. Helfer is kind of double-dipping in the real-time strategy genre here, given her recent appearances in Command & Conquer 3 and its expansion. Fans have been speculating about who would play Kerrigan for a while now, so there's your answer. Star power!

" Kinda sucks for the voice actor who voiced Kerrigan in the original Starcraft. "Guess she didn't wanna do it
"What exactly is the point of having her do the voice work for this game, other than being able to tell geeks "look, cute girl with boobies! you want to buy this NOW!"? I mean, it's not like her voice is THAT recognizable or unique. "
QFT. Exactly what i was thinking.

It seems like her retirement plan is to star in the nerdiest things possible and spend the latter half of her life at conventions signing autographs for money. I suppose next she'll guest on Heroes, VO in a Star Wars game, and red shirt in the next Star Trek movie.
Not to say I'm complaining. I'm just wondering why Grace Park isn't nerding it out as much. Or Luci Lawless, even. Actually, Lawless might be tied up.
Its sad how much I know about the careers of these women... :-(
Whats not mentioned in this story is Robert Clotworthy (the original VA for Raynor) is returning to voice Raynor.
To me thats more exciting.
" @Branthog said:You don't need an exraordinary voice, but acting is required. That's why they hire actors for voice over. Hiring a 35 year old TV actress, will not exactly cost them a fortune either. It's not like they hired Scarlett Johannson. Cylons and zerg are the same thing anyway, uninspired sci-fi baddies it's a match made in space.QFT. Exactly what i was thinking. This is Jimmy.
I'm just happy they rehired the old voice actor for Raynor. Was so pissed when they had decided to drop him.
Maybe they actually think she's really good at, you know, acting? =p" What exactly is the point of having her do the voice work for this game, other than being able to tell geeks "look, cute girl with boobies! you want to buy this NOW!"? Anyone who thinks Blizz is only hiring a pretty face is totally clueless. BSG, as nerdy as it sounds, is an amazing show and she was consistently excellent.
" @Branthog said:She's also the voice of the Black Cat in the recent Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.I mean, it's not like her voice is THAT recognizable or unique. "I recognize her voice when I hear it. I believe she's also done one of the DC comic films I've seen and I don't remember anything negative of her work. "
