Hello guys! Here is the list of games available for the poll, created with our (the community) feedback.

All games have international servers, so that everyone can play together. Although some don't have a native version in Mac, and present a degree of instance dungeons. For more info about the games see their homepage and Wikipedia links.

Happy discussion, and voting!

And in the end if your favourite game didn't won, don't be sad as we'll probably have to experiment more than one mmo to get the most suitable to our enjoyment.

Cheers

Hm, I will await the results of this poll.  I will not play Silk Road, however.  I'm done with that.

I voted Ragnarok Online since I had some great fun with that in the past. Although I will play pretty much everything exepct Runescape.
Edit: As I have heard DnD Online is NOT free in Europe so I´m out of that too.

Not a fan of Runescape myself either and if Silika is right then that could prove problematic for DnD for me too. However anything else is good for me!
I voted SMT:Imagine Online by the way.

I think SMT:Imagine Online would be the most accessible game on that list, due to the fact that it has some very familiar subject matter to the community and the combat surprisingly fun (coming from someone who doesn't usually like MMOs)

Seriously. People are voting for DDO but the instance-ness of it is huge. Nearly every quest in the game is an instance with a limit of like 6 people.

Its not free in Europe but you can play for free on an american server, and when I played it a few months ago there were barely any lags so I dont think there is a problem.

From the Runes of Magic wiki:

Guild Castle: Any level 5 + guild has the opportunity to buy a castle, each one having its own instance. The instance provides access to the guild bank and a tech-tree that will allow the guild to construct buildings with different beneficial effects. Recently, more features were added to the guild castles, for example: stables, farms, etc.

I can already see a nice lookin', pimped out Giant Bombcastle.

Don't worry. Like i said we might have to play more than one game in order to have the best experience. :)

Imagine Online? It was fun at first but got boring and repetitive. Then again, that was a long time ago. So many new stuff. If it wins, this many people could make it enjoyable.

@PeteyCoco: have no idea, I'm at work ATM, it downloaded at home, so I'll probably try it today if I get the chance. I've been reading about it. Some things sound cool, like the dual class system (primary and secondary class), this guild castle business,  and apparently you can plant stuff and have a house... You can turn it into a Harvest Moon MMO if you like =)
Or Farmville MMO for you younger players =)

Runes of Magic is supposedly THE best free mmo as it is a pretty good WoW clone. I have never tried it myself though, might try it today.

Just remember that you need to level up both your classes in RoM separately and it's very cash shop dependent unless they drastically changed the game. Oh well any game is fun with a lot of people.

I voted RoM,because the idea of a Giant Bombcastle sounds so awesome,i was torn between that and Silk Road, but i dont have too fond memories of SR

DDO would be cool but it is just too insanely instance based.Me and my friend have put about 3 hours into it and every quest so far has included an instance of sorts.

I would play Lord of the Rings Online when that becomes free.
I've had a ton of fun with that game and it's awesome story.
I hope it's not gonna be dumbed down or anything since It's cool to have .ABC files lying around for different songs and instruments in the game =D

I looked at YouTube game play videos for the following:    Links lead to videos.
Requiem Memento Mori  -  Looks like a WOW clone with decent lighting effects.  Kind of muddy looking though in the rest of the graphics, though.
Runes of Magic - Another (near duplicate) WOW clone but you can only be humans although there are several classes to pick from.  Has daily quests too.  Nice graphics. At level 10 you can pick up a second class for your character.  EDIT:  You can be elves, too (thanks @armaan8014: ) but it would be better for GB guild to stay as one race for unity.
Runescape - Well, it's old and it's ugly so there is that to start with.  The interface looks clunky and the sound is lifeless.  This looks like complete crap to me.
Allods Online - Very nice graphics.  Multiple races and classes to choose from.  Has a Alliance/Horde type faction.  Better customization than WOW. Has voiced quest givers.  The game world is a mix of standard fantasy and sci-fi with sailing ships in space.
Perfect World International - Asian MMO with overly detailed character creation and "cat-girls".  Nice graphics although UI looks very busy.  Very open world with few loading times.  Probably lots of monster killing grinding, though.
Ragnarok Online - Meh, 2D graphics exhibit this game's age.  Simple interface and Diablo-like controls.
Ragnarok 2 Online - Much better graphics than it's predecessor, 3D now.  More intuitive UI, too.  "Cuter" looking game.  I'm not sure if the poll is for RO1 or RO2, but I hope it's for RO2.
RF Online - A fantasy/sci-fi based MMO.  Nice detailed character creation, although very typically Asian.  Limited race and class choices.  Mediocre graphics in my opinion, but nice animations.  Used to be pay-to-play, so some production aspects are high.
Fantasy Earth Zero  - Very cute, if blocky graphics. Looks very PS2-gen 1 era. Character creation is pretty standard.  Heavily PVP based game structure.  Action RPG that requires aiming with a crosshair.
Florensia Online - Really nice anime-styled graphics similar to RO2.  WOW-like user interface.  Ship to ship combat!!  Unique art design to the world very reminiscent of Dark Cloud 2.  Nice character customization, although nothing above the norm for Asian MMOs.
Secret of the Solstice -  Simple, bland graphics that look N64 era.  Isometric camera with little control.  Simple point-click gameplay. This one doesn't appeal to me.  An RO1 clone.
Karos Online - another WOW clone but a nice looking one that is more realistic looking than cartoonish like WOW.  This one looks pretty good.

I've played Anarchy Online back when it was relatively new and disliked it, so I didn't look that one up.

From the videos I've seen I'd rate the games in the following order.  Of course, these conclusions are only based on looking at videos and not playing the games myself.

  1. Runes of Magic
  2. Allods Online
  3. Karos Online
  4. Florensia Online
  5. Perfect World International
  6. Ragnarok 2 Online
  7. Requiem Memento Mori
  8. RF Online
  9. Fantasy Earth Zero
  10. Ragnarok 1 Online

Yeah, I kind of hope that's the one that wins because it will be the easiest for most of us to adjust to.  But, we'll see.  I might try out a couple of these on my own which ever way the poll goes.

No! You can also be elves now! I had played as an elf, and they have different worlds and quests, but they can move into each other's world also.
But it would be better if all of us were humans in the game as that is the main part of the game.

Voted for RoM. Allods looks pretty but it's ruined by the poor animation. Imagine could be interesting as well, but I'd rather not take a gamble. Incidentally, I thought it was ubisofts imagine at first.

Runes of Magic looks really good. I don't know about half of those MMOs, though.

EDIT: 6.7 GB? Damn, that's pretty big for a free MMO. It's going to take a while with these download speeds.

The RoM guild stuff sounds pretty awesome, but I dislike the lack of variety when it comes to race. Allods Online also looks cool. Does anyone know what the guild stuff is like in that?

@MattyFTM:

According to what I read on ALLODS website and wiki:

"You can create a new guild by using a special object called a Crystal of Unity. It can be bought from each faction's official Guild Master who is located in their faction's capital. In order to activate the Crystal of Unity, you must be in a party with five other players who are not currently in any guild. As soon as the Crystal is activated, a name must be chosen for the guild. After this last step the new guild is founded and the party leader becomes the guild master while the other members of the party become the officers.

Guilds are hierarchical in nature and each guild member is assigned a rank. The first rank is the guild master. There can only be one guild master at a time and that individual is the leader for the guild. They have authority over all the officers and can disband the guild, promote and demote other members, accept or remove members, and change the guild information and message of the day.

The second and third ranks of the guild are for officers. They are usually experienced players who help the guild master run the guild. They can accept new members, remove regular members, and promote or demote regular members. However, they cannot remove, promote, or demote other officers. This ability is reserved for the guild master only.

Following the officers are the regular guild members. The middle ranks are usually given to more distinguished members, while the lowest ranks are given to newly accepted recruits and punished players."

Rooting around further at comments and message boards, there doesn't appear to be a guild-bank system or guild housing, yet.
