Runescape back in grade 5. Played the hell out of it back then and it's how I got into playing mmorpgs. Don't really play much now though.

@Jackel2072: Oh nice I was about to say the same. So many classic experiences… and all the hilarity! For some reason every Doom 2 deathmatch was the most hilarious thing ever.

I played Battlefield 1942 online at a cousins house and it blew my mind.

Hate to be mean, but some of the people saying things like Borderlands and MW2 are hilarious to me for some reason :P

Anyway, I think I started on Turok 2 back in like 98 or something. Good ol dial-up. Got so mad whenever anyone picked up a phone.

In 2000, my step-dad found a fun little game for me to play called EverQuest. God, the next 4 years of my life not trying to get laid or making meaningful social connections other than ones I already had :(

I don't remember what game, but I do remember I had an 800Mhz Pentium (2?) dell and I ran half-life and mods in software mode because my graphics card couldn't handle 3d games. And when I finally got dial-up, it was 56k but ran at about 1KBps. Took like 15mins to download 1 counter-strike gun skin. I think I still have the old creative 56k v.92 modem I ever bought in a box somewhere.

Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow was the first game I really played online seriously. It was just so goddamn amazing. The whole Spy vs. Merc stuff was so interesting and (mostly) well balanced. I wish I could go back to those days!

Star Wars: Jedi Outcast 2; I got fucking destroyed. That game was pretty awesome, if I remember correctly. Probably hasn't held up though.

I guess it would have been Everquest, but I didn't really get into it. My buddy tried to turn me on to it, and it just didn't interest me. I'm still not big on online games. A little COD here and there. A little Borderlands. But I mostly avoid it.

Doom over 56k modem direct dialing a friend. Phone line stretched all the way across my living room just to call his computer. Other game I remember playing at that time was Outpost, really really really old school RTS game.

Earliest I remember is Chuck Yeger's flight simulator. Although, I'm pretty sure I played pacman or dragon's lair as small child prior to that.

I just remembered something: I actually think my first first online gaming experience was Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, which was actually a really great free-to-play FPS.

Man, I honestly don't remember for sure, but I want to say it was Red Alert 2. I had a good amount of fun with that for awhile.

Quake 2, all the obscure tweaking I had done to get it working, and the sheer ferocity of the players in my first ever deathmatch scarred me to this day.
