What was your first console?
Intellivision
I still had it up until about 4 years ago. I moved and it was crushed by a dresser in the back of a uhaul.
NES around like 1995 from a garage sale. I was 3 so I had no idea there was a Super Nintendo, but that was OK because Super Mario Bros. 3 was all I needed.
" @Phazon said:" Super Nintendo, 1996, hand-me-down from my older brother who "wanted it gone after he got the better N64". Well, he made a fool of himself, didn't he? :P "SNES remains one of the most playable consoles. Classic games that hardly age. "
I absolutely loved my Nintendo 64, sadly my family never owned a Super Nintendo lol we went from NES straight to N64 my 10 year old mind was blown. I wish i could find a decent mock NES system so i could play my remaining NES games.
I played the hell out of my dad's Atari 800. For some reason wasn't allowed to have a NES, but they finally caved and got me a Genesis back in like '93.
The first console my family owned was a NES but I barely remember playing on it, being no more than 3-4 at the time (so this'd be around '89. We sold or gave that away at some point and instead my dad came home with an Amiga 500 (later upgraded to a 1200) which served as my gaming platform for the better part of my childhood. I did play an extensive amount of NES at friends houses though since that's what everyone had except for me. I used to be so jealous of them since they could play on the TV and get a much bigger picture (we used a tiny Commodore monitor that probably caused seizures). I remember mentioning this to my dad and having him try and explain the concept of resolutions to a freaking 6 year old. Eventually he hooked up the Amiga to the TV to shut me up.
Then came the PC into our home but was pretty shite as a gaming platform since it only ran DOS and I was used to the glorious desktop environment of Amiga Workbench. Games were mostly shittier versions of games that looked much better on the Amiga anyway. It's strange today thinking back on that time, when the Amiga actually was a viable desktop alongside the PC and did several things better.
Eventually, of course, Commodore went under and games stopped coming out for the Amiga. Microsoft got themselves an OS with a graphical interface and 3D games that shat all over my Amiga sidescrollers started pouring out for PC, which became my gaming platform and remains so to this day.
In 2004 or something a friend brought over a PS1 for us to drink beer and beat Resident Evil one night. The PS1 is still standing here and I haven't spoken to this friend in a few years so I guess that's my console now. In 2007, my girlfriend moved in with me and brought her PS2 to the mix and in 2008 she bought me (us) a Wii for my birthday.
I was young at the time, but I remember owning a Phillips CD-i with the game Surf City, so I suppose 4th Gen. Played the hell out of that game, mainly because it had the best menu music I have ever seen in a video game. I think. Couldn't tell you what it is, but it blew my mind, thus was awesome. After that SNES, PS1 etc.
The Coleco Gemini, which was a piece of shit of a console. Both of them broke just weeks after we bought them. We got an Atari 2600 later and it lasted for years despite all the abuse I gave it.
When I was in grade 9 I saved money for 8 months and bought a PS2 as my first console. Was originally going to get a Gamecube, but then decided the extra $80 was worth having a console that could play GTA.
I never had parents that were big into popular culture. Just yesterday my roommate was talking about this mario craft thing she is working on and my mom was around and heard her and said "And who is this Mario guy?"
