Wizard needs gamepad badly!
Wizard needs gamepad badly!
It's a longish weekend for those of us in the U.S. this week as the date of our independence draws nigh. And besides visiting dueling barbecues for a time on Saturday to compare the relative merits of their beef ribs, I'll be spending the next few days doing what many of you are probably also doing: staying in the house playing games. Here's what's on my short list. What's on yours?

Trine

Well, I gotta review it next week. But more to the point, it looks super slick, with beautiful visuals and what looks like unique aiming and platform mechanics, and a whole lot of physics, from the little bit I tried so far. Who else is digging into this one after yesterday's early release?

Professor Layton

Nearly finished climbing the tower! St. Mystere's dark secrets are almost known to me--plus, I need to finish it before the new one comes out. This copy's going to my mom when I'm done with it.

Gears of War 2orGrand Theft Auto IV?

My pile of shame is a mile high (Fallout 3 and Fable II yet remain essentially untouched) but I've played enough of these two games that the idea of finishing them is at least approachable. But I can't decide! One of them has a thin enough storyline that I can probably get back into it after a few months away from it, but then, the other one was our Game of the Year last year. OK, you guys tell me which of these to play.

More importantly, tell me what you're playing this weekend to fill the time between setting off illegal fireworks and cramming processed meat products down your gullets. For bonus points, discuss your preferred brand of hot dogs, and why. Happy eating! I mean, playing! Both! Whatever!

Weirdly, I've gone back to Dead Space for the first time since the day after it came out (played that sucker non-stop, fucking loved it) but i'm unable to fully concentrate just had a minor operation, so i'm playing it slowly, rooting around for bits I missed last time, having some fun.

Also playing Castle Crashers for the first time and man, it was never designed to be played single player, but that will have to do for now, it's still an excellent game I had no idea it would be this much fun, and i'm so annoyed at myself for not having purchased it sooner, it's had me laughing so much I thought my stitches might tear.

Edit: Holy shit I forgot it's July 4th tommorow, have fun guys :D It'll be just another normal day for me though, albeit one spent mostly not moving :P

Play GTA4. Gears is awesome, but it's more of the smae awesome you already know and love. GTA4 serves up different stuff, so, if arguably not a better game, it's a better thing to be able to say you've played, experiances-wise.

Going through Bionic Commando on commando diffulcity cause I'm a gultton for punishment.  Will finish up Prototype if theres time.

@Brad: I'd go with GoW2, I tried getting back into GTA4 near the end and it didn't go well, there's nothing like getting 15 min into a mission (after 5 of mindless driving to a destination) just to die and start at the very begining.  You can't really appreicate checkpoints untill they are gone (of course I'm not one to talk playing Bionic Commando).

Possibly anything from the following:
Prototype
Fallout 3
Left 4 Dead
Starfy DS

I'm really thinking about buying Trine, but my game addiction, as of late, is cutting into my actual life, so I think I'll stick with finishing what I have now.

I recently got into Mass Effect again. The first time I played it, I stopped when the driving frustrated me so much, and I had no desire to go through the driving. I'm about 4 hours in, and I've just become a spectre and got the normandy. This time I'm going to persevere through the terrible driving sections to get to the rest of the game.

Although Fallout 3 is half price on steam. It's a bargain at only £13.50. I'll probably buy it, and be trying to juggle two RPG's at once (something which never ends well).

And I'll be washing it down with an (un)healthy dose of of Team Fortress 2.

I just finished Tales of Vesperia a couple days ago so I rented Red Faction: Guerrilla... I'm liking it so far.... The shooting is kind of boring but destroying everything has been pretty satisfying.
I'll probably also play some 1 vs 100 Live Friday and Saturday.
Hopefully watch a couple movies when I'm not playing. Spirited Away just came in the mail from Netflix.

Edit: Guess there isn't a Live 1 vs 100 tomorrow. Makes sense.

After finishing 6th Form on 18th June I've had very little to do other than play games. As for this weekend I will be playing Lost Odyssey (which I bought over a year ago completed the 1st disc and never touched again til this May); Little BIg Planet (which is really fun in small chunks but gets frustrating after more than an hour); and probably be starting InFamous and/or Killzone 2 (Lots of PS3 games as I just got the console for my birthday).

As for what you should play Brad - while GTA4 is a far superior game, I would suggest Gears 2 as you have other stuff to be playing and in my opinion GTA deserves undivided attention, whereas Gears is mindless good fun

As is mine. I won't name games in that pile, making for a much shorter post:

Panzer Dragoon Saga (Great game)
Okami (Neglected game)
Dragon Quest V (Less neglected game)
The hellishly high amount of games I need to beat

Trine is way rad, i love that artstyle.

Oh right...erm, even in the UK i'll still be "in" most of the time, playing games, probably more Oblivion for the 3rd playthrough, on the PC.

And most likely more Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

I plan on playing some Battlefield: Bad Company, continue playing 1 vs 100, and maybe hit up some Team Fortress 2.

@Brad: Play GTA IV first though because its not as overwhelmingly big as Fallout 3 and the story in GTA IV is fantastic overall.

Also I prefer Oscar Mayer hot dogs because that is pretty much the only brand of hot dogs I know lol. Also what brand of hot dogs have a hot dog mobile?! Thats awesome in my book.

I think I'm going to play a large chunk of Klona. I started it a couple of weeks ago, but got distracted. It is good fun and have been meaning to get back to it.
Although, as with all these things, I will probably end up playing something completely different.

Although GTA IV is probably the better game, Gears of War 2 is probably your best bet if you've got family in town.
I'll be playing Red Faction: Guerilla and maybe buying up all of the Fallout 3 DLC.
HEBREW NATIONAL hot dogs are the best because they were rated best 'dog in Consumer Reports, and they also get props for being kosher.

Thinking about Trine, but I'm trying to save money at the moment.

Otherwise my weekend will be filled with WoW and TF2 as usual, you can thank GameFly for going 3 days and shipping me nothing, because I want something new and not Army of Two or whatever they have in high stock.

I'm gonna be playing Fallout 3 and Castle Crashers probably, and be as antisocial as possible.

Although I haven't played either games, GTA4 just looks better in every way possible, that's what I'd choose.

EDIT: I bought GH2 this afternoon, too, so I'll probably play that most of the day.

I plan on putting in some time with Battlefield Heroes (which is being unfairly crapped on by just about everyone), Full Throttle (my first time through), TF2, Fallout 3 (my second time through, still having problems with micro-stutter), America's Army 3, Plants Vs Zombies and some Mass Effect. I just keep rotating through all of them a few hours at a time.

Start a fresh new save of GTA IV. That is how I got back into it and then finished it three days later. Hell of a game.
