Looking at polls on the site, more than 50% uses X1050p and over for resolution. I on other site tried to convince even pc gamers who uses something like X900 rez or less, even a X768 rez hdtv as a pc monitor to upgrade. The common excuses they might have is, I don't have the money, or maybe, it's good enough, or their rig can't run anything higher.

I ask you, do you think things could look even better or worst with more pixels? It will only look better and sharper for everything. Of course you might complain that it takes more power to run something like X1200 rez or higher, well a bit more power. Also not everyone is a pc gamer might be another excuse. I think we all here have a pc, well some macs, that's a different story. The point is a monitor is a window into the pc world, so why do you have such a small, window that isn't clear you hunch over in thinking it's good enough? Even if it cost $200, why not upgrade? Some monitors are at 1080p now, just like hdtvs, you can take your console and plug it into there, it has sound now. Your not missing anything rather your gaining alot. You can sit and surf on the web and go play console or pc games all in one monitor. For $200 that's really cheap for a 1080p display, where you can practically watch blue ray the way it was intended.

What are your reasons for not upgrading? Also will you ever consider upgrading it? If you actually have a bit of cashed saved up?

(fun fact, did you know if you have a laptop or a notebook, if it has hdmi out, you can connect it to any 1080p displays if it has a hdmi port?)

I'm just rocking 1024x768 on a 15 inch monitor.
Severely lacking in the cash department and any money I do have is mostly spend to staying alive, paying college and the house.
I don't believe in bigger and better, I have yet to get one HD TV or monitor in the house and my pc ain't all that either.

I still manage to survive, like our ancestors did one generation earlier...wait...I mean...why are people so spoiled? ><

As for your question: Yes, I would like to upgrade very much when I can afford the expense, I just prefer living decently above that!

I don't get what your point is. People should buy a bigger monitor if they can afford it? Well most people can't or can't justify the "upgrade" to a bigger monitor for the price.

This is basically like saying "You don't own a car made in 2010? You should buy one. I have one. They are worth the money". It's not that people don't want them. It's that people aren't made or money, or have bills or kids or numerous other things to spend their money on than a notch up in resolution.

Lot's of misconceptions here, bigger is not better? I say high resolution is usually better, maybe not too high. I think besides a mobo, or videocard, a monitor or display is very important. Of course you don't understand what i'm saying. It's like ppl are paying for their monitor with food stamps or doesn't think it's worth it. I think it's worth the $200 and you wouldn't know unless you seen it.

I also have a 15 inch, 1024 x 768 monitor.  It's not that I don't see the value in owning a much better monitor, I just don't have the cash for it.  I need a new graphics card (currently have a radeon HD 4550) before I need a new monitor though.

@Laketown: I put a hdtv right on my desk as a pc monitor, besides using a 1080p monitor to play games, I did the opposite, I use a 1080p hdtv, that resolution is great. I get a big screen for a change, a good display, where others ignorantly thinks the pixels are too big, when it's about perfect. Also it's way bigger than any 30" X1600 rez display or putting three monitors together.

my current crt monitor can run anything up to and beyond 1920x1440, and i choose to run it at 1280x1024 because it just looks the nicest on the monitor - not too compacted, not too stretched out. i don't play my pc for the bleeding edge of graphics or anything like that; my reasoning is that, if i already have a perfectly capable machine that can play most things with relative ease, what do i need a console for? i have everything i need on one system and i'm perfectly happy with my choice of monitor.

You seriously need to get over that PC thread. For one, nobody was telling you not to post larger pictures, everybody was just saying post them in thumbnails so people who want to see them in full size can click them. Secondly..just stop..it's getting incredibly childish.

@HitmanAgent47: What is your point? There is absolutely no reason to upgrade until you personally feel there's need for it.

You are the worst poster on this forum. I'm very curious to know what your age is. I hope you reply and don't lie about it, as I believe you to be under 20 years old and still living with your parents who buy you the things you want them to, or you are able to spend your entire taco bell paycheck on electronic goods.

How about you just ask yourself why you don't own a 2560x1600 monitor. Or 6 1920x1080 monitors in Eyefinity or 3 for Nvidia Surround? There is always bigger and better, what is the point in constantly trolling people with resolutions lower than yours? Are you really that pathetic?

@Toms115: Widescreen is kind of nice, that's why I like it over crts. Belive me, I once was like crts are better than lcds, however when I compare the two, sure the crt has a good image quality, it lacks the colors or the wider resolution.

I can name 100 things I would rather/need to upgrade and spend money on before a computer screen. And it is apparent that you don't have financial responsibility's if you think people use 'excuses' for not upgrading a PC screen. Why do you even give a fuck?

@Geno: Sorry, i'm sure a X1600 rez monitor is good, however it's like expensive as a entry level 1080p hdtv and it's sort of small to me. I might as well just get a shitty 120hz insignia 32" hdtv as best buy and use that as a display. Besides, a 1080p monitor can play blue ray, ever tried it? No? It's useful for games, blue ray and everything else. A X1600 rez monitor will be too high, the blue ray movies which I watch alot on my displays will be downscaled. I got the size over the resolution, 1080p is just about right. Yet i'm sure you wouldn't notice it on a 23" asus lcd monitor where you have to hunch over to see it.

This. Coupled with the fact that money and space are factors for those of us who don't live with our parents.

@HitmanAgent47:

Point being, I've seen it and played on it at a friends lan party.
It's very, very, veeeery cool and looks amazing.

I'm also not agreeing with bigger is better, fun can come from any corner.
I remember playing my Snes on a small black and white television, while the cool kids had the first big tv's.
I simply do not care for it, and it does not fit into my life currently (and that's not because of the size xD).

Why the hell do you care Hitman? Why can't you just mind your own business, enjoy your own machine and let other people do whatever the fuck they want without getting in a ridiculous nerd rage about such unimportant bullshit. Do you have nothing else going on in your life to keep your mind occupied?

@Geno: Why don't I just put two hdtvs together instead of you putting three shitty wide lcd monitors together just to have enough width yet no height? I mean you can put a monitor in the middle, and turn two smaller one vertically, you wouldn't even match a normal 1080p hdtv as a display. Maybe if you put together three X1600 rez monitor, then maybe it's worth it.

No, it's much more expensive than an entry level 1080p HDTV. And are you actually comparing the quality of some 32" HDTV to an 2560x1600 30" PC monitor? Really?

Just like any other HDCP-enabled display, which includes most PC monitors regardless of size or resolution?!

No, they would be upscaled. 2560*1600 is a much higher resolution than 1920*1080. Almost double the amount of pixels.

After all this time, you still don't understand the difference between resolution and display size do you? For someone that preaches so much about display resolutions you know next to nothing about image quality, and that's being generous.

@Geno: You probally never watched blue ray or used a hdtv which you have, a plasma samsung 52", you probally have 600hz subfield drive which means 600 frames even if it's repeated many times over per second yet you tried to call me out in another thread my 120hz doesn't do that many frames (obviously, however I said it creates interpolation, it does create frames. The native rez is 1080p, the native frames is 120p and everything is scaled to it. It's funny you say that when you have a 600hz display) Since you don't watch blue ray, only use the 1080p for pc gaming, you don't own a console that can upscale 1080p, you might think i'm talking about misconceptions, you on the other hand is nothing but worthless theories and a lack of experience.

I know it's tempting not to, but I advise everyone to just ignore him from now on unless he says something about you directly. His nearly bottomless pit of ignorance would take a highly-skilled team several years to fill, if it even can be filled at all. I think the old adage of "don't feed the troll" is appropriate for this situation.

@Geno: I am saying for what I use it for, I don't need X1600, I could of got a X1200 rez screen easily too, I don't like the aspect ratio, it's going to affect blue ray watching, it will ruin the aspect ratio also it will ruin console games. Only pc games will scale to it. I'm saying sure 30" display has good image quality, even better, however it doesn't work with the stuff I want to use it for. (this goes in one ear and out the other because you have no idea what i'm talking about because of a lack of experience with blue ray and console upscaled games. The only way you could understand is by useless theories, you call me ignorant, yet you don't understand what i'm saying half the time because you don't have the experience. A lack of experience and understanding of it can also be considered ignorance, or half truths)

No, 2560x1600 is 16:10. There is 2560x1440 which is 16:9, so you could get that.
