I'd be very interested, but I feel like Quick Look Throwbacks are a nice way to go about it.
Would you like to see retrospective features, similar to those on Screened, on Giant Bomb (eg. Besties, Defending Your Game etc.)?
" I'd be very interested, but I feel like Quick Look Throwbacks are a nice way to go about it. "Pretty much.

Though I still wouldn't mind a more structured feature every so often (as much as I love the quick looks).

Before that, it had been quite a while, I think.
" Like edited video review style features for old games? Sounds good to me. "Yes, something like this. Quicklook throwbacks are good, but they are not what's best suited for honoring old classics by putting them in the "Giant Bomb Hall of Fame". Something scripted and edited, made with preparations in mind, like video reviews, would be a great addition to the site. Yeah, I am all for Giant Bomb's equivalent to The Besties and Defending Your Movie (Game?).
The Quick Look Throwbacks are great but I would mind branching out. Doing game versions of "The Besties" and "Defending your Movie" would be really cool cause we get a better idea of the crews more personal tastes. Also "Half Good" would work great for games, I can think of a million of those.
Absolutely, but I'm hoping they'd be text.I love the video's on this site, but there are no text features other than the news and reviews, it'd be nice to have the guys actually write once in awhile. It's also a great way for them to share the opinions on certain things that don't warrant a video or doesn't come up during the bombcast.
It would be a great feature, but it takes time and effort to do things like that, it doesn't take nearly as long to sit down and watch a movie as it takes to play through 90% of the games these guys review, and with Quick Looks and Interviews a plenty, that leaves them with even less time compared to Rorie and Alex (though Alex is pretty keen on getting his game review on when it calls for it).
I'd be all for it (even in text) but its asking a lot from such a small crew that only have so many hours in the day as it is.
I want it, but I really don't think they have the time. I've actually been thinking about trying to do my own QL TBs and attaching them to their respective game pages...but I really don't have the time right now either...
Instead of something like the Besties, how about a series that featured highly influential games through video game history?
Would be more interesting to get the guys to talk specifically about what was influential about the game and how it made its mark on the industry, as opposed to what would probably boil down to a Quick Look Throwback.
" Instead of something like the Besties, how about a series that featured highly influential games through video game history?Nah, those games have already been covered dozens of times by dozens of sites.
Would be more interesting to get the guys to talk specifically about what was influential about the game and how it made its mark on the industry, as opposed to what would probably boil down to a Quick Look Throwback. "
It'd be way more interesting to hear them talk about their favourite games, since it's much more personal, and it's their personalities that we come here for. I know Jeff is a fan of Rez like myself and I'd love to see him do a piece on it.
Of course I would want that, but the general game journalist tendency to call anything more than 6 months old antiquated suggests that Quick Look Throwbacks will continue to be a pleasant surprise whenever they appear instead of a regular feature.
The main difficulty of getting Screened-like features is editing. For things like the Besties/Defending Your Movie, most of it is just splicing in clips from a 2hr~ movie that is used to emphasize or prove the point of the current line in the script.
For it to work on Giant Bomb, that could involve countless hours to play through the game to get the required footage to, again, emphasize or prove a point; countless man hours used to make a 5 minute clip, so it's probably best to save those for high-grade video reviews.
