same as most people, i used to kinda enjoy their music (and keep in mind i was like 8 when they were really at their prime) but each CD seemed to get worse and worse and now they're absolute shit.
Do you share the Giant Bomb crew's dislike of Linkin Park?
They've been my favorite band for quite some time, though I haven't liked Minutes to Midnight nor A Thousand Suns nearly as much as Hybird Theory / Meteora / Reanimation. I only really like four or so songs from Minutes and only one or two from Suns compared to practically every song on those other albums.
I still prefer their Nu Metal sound over the Rock they do now.
I've had it put to me that Linkin Park are the band that you like before you find the band you love. Just a part of growing up. That said, there music can be cool to listen to. I hate anyone ragging on anyone's music taste. How can you have a bad taste in music? its your taste! I think that when someone says "X are shit, and anyone who likes them doesn't understand music" says more about the person saying it than anything else! I personally can't stand anything that Nick Grimshaw would listen to. But hey, its a free country!
I've noticed that Ryan and Jeff often make jokes about things that haven't been culturally relevant to make jokes about since the late 90s/early 00s .eg Linkin Park, Korn, ICP. It kind of shows their age I guess.
I liked them.......
When I was 12 in 2000...
I also laugh when Vinny mentions how he liked korn when he was younger, I did also. Now I see how stupid their lyrics are, for example:
"So I take my time, Driving a blade down the line
Each cut, closer to the vein; Bleed, Bleed... "
Ugh...what was I thinking.
I've always thought they had the potential to be great, but with each album that thought has died a little. I did like some of their songs on 'A Thousand Suns' though.
I don't activiely listen to their music, but they have some good music. Bleed It Out in particular is fucking great.
Also, their collaborations with Jay-Z yielded some very cool results.

I still like Hybrid Theory and Meteora, hell just listen to them today, but I'm not a big fan of their new stuff. Idk, I liked the whole rock/rap thing they had going, especially at the time it was really interesting. Now....well now not so much but just cause I don't like a bands current music doesn't mean I suddenly dislike their older music that I liked before. If I like it...i'll listen to it.
Pretty much this.
I think they're pretty unbearably awful, but I've never actually listened to a Linkin Park album. I've only heard them on the radio.
I used to like them when I was in my early teens. I pretty much listened to them and Limp Bizkit until I found out what real metal was. Listening to their stuff now I just realize how terrible they are and that I can't even stomach the stuff for nostalgia's sake anymore. I'm not ashamed to say I liked them when I was young though, because you don't have the listening experience to distinguish good music from bad.
Ya minutes to midnight or whatever it was called um killed the dream.I listened to Linkin Park when Hybrid Theory came out, enjoyed it. Bought Meteora, enjoyed it. Got 'live in texas' (or whatever it's called) and thought it was average.
Heard one song off of whatever the next album was and said "whaatt...."
Versatility is not the word I would use to describe their progression. They went for a more radio-friendly sound in order to reach a broader audience. That's fine; but I don't like it, so yes, I do dislike Linkin Park.
I tend to stay clear of most of the mainstream, so much of it is the same thing again and again. If you listen to Linkin Park all their timing and song structures are the exact same, the drumming is always the same, there isn't anything different or stimulating for me so while I realize many people might enjoy them I'm not one of them.
I've just hear their radio songs. They sound extremely generic and manufactured to please their target audience. It sounds like they are going for angry and edgy but they actually sound very safe and bland. I wouldn't ever hassle anyone who gets some sliver of enjoyment from them though. That's great. maybe it will get them into making their own music some day. hopefully it will be better music.
I liked them years ago when the song "In the End" first came out. But that song was overplayed within my group of friends. I've ignored them until all the transformers promotional videos and trailers came out and don't really like what I'm hearing. Some of my friends still like them but I don't.
