I think we're pretty friendly here, actually (at least compared to some other places). Sure, there are debates here and there, but people generally don't come off as assholes and things are taken generally lightheartedly.

As far as being a complete jerk? Not even close. I remember a guy who shit all over someone who made a thread about their friend who had committed suicide, and basically fought with everyone, posturing and flamebaiting and insulting and clearly making up shit...it was a few years ago, but it was gross.
It's better than some sites, but this place is far from perfect. Anonymity and not having to deal with people directly will do that. It takes more skill to show restraint, understanding, and empathy for others.
A lot of people are uptight here, too. People dislike other members or staff for the dumbest reasons. I'm at a point in the my life where I don't find everything other people do as annoying; I'm a lot happier because of it.
I've seen awesome photoshops, read well thought out analytical blogs about the nature of video games, laughed at hilarious jokes, been given free games and had in depth conversations in this community. So yes, it's pretty swell... mostly the free games.

Two or a three. There isn't nearly as much vitrol here compared to places like GAF, but people are still more than eager to get nasty when any opposing opinions clash.

I'd say it's way more friendly than not, I think, but I don't venture into the depths of the internet very much so I can't compare. However judging from some of the responses maybe I'm browsing a different site then some of yous guys.
Also what's wrong with trying (and occasionally perhaps failing) to be sarcastic and funny? There's way worse things then that. (really if that were the bottom of this particular pit we'd be the best community that ever existed) Plus it's the only way my family communicates with each other, so it's all I know how to do.

Nah, whyareyoucrouchingspock is the worst this community has to offer. And if we have one fuckwad in a sea of (relative) internet decency, then I'd say that's quite a great community.
Most of the aforementioned fuckwads eventually get angry and leave anyway; Spock seems to be the only one that's active.

I think it's telling that the Giantbomb guys actually post on GAF and SomethingAwful, but avoid these forums like the plague.
I'd give it a solid 3. It's nothing compared to a good forum community, but much better than YouTube comments or 4chan.
There are several instances where a discussion in 4chan's video game board is actually more mature than the discussions we have here. Sure you might be thrown a racial slur or questioned your sexual preference, but the discussion is still sometimes better than here.

They're constantly making references to the forums, so they obviously pay some kind of attention to them. I dunno, if I was them I wouldn't be posting in my own forums either 'cause it would throw off the whole vibe.
There's assholes and pedants and spammers here just like everywhere else, but it could be a lot worse. There's more decent folks here than any other forum I've been to. The community makes decent content, and (generally) is up for a serious discussion on just about anything. The mods are open and vigilant, though I think @Sweep is hiding a terrible secret...
I've never joined an internet community with any kind of investment because I never wanted to; Giant Bomb gives me that itch to jump in and start butting heads with the users.
