I might be slightly homeless soon...
One of the towns (Innisfail) is going to be hit a second time, because a weaker cyclone came through earlier this week. Thanks guys, I'm leaving now.
Mother nature's a bitch this week. I'm in an icestorm right now that is suppose to soon turn into a blizzard over the next few days.
Your situation is definitely worse, though.
Good luck! Hope your house survives.
I feel lucky to live in Sweden. We never get any natural disasters.
Oh my god dude. That's really rough. Hopefully your house pulls through. May the force--and Batman--be with you.
Best of luck man. If you do lose everything, may I suggest moving to Canada? Starting next month we are going to have ass backwards internet just like you guys do, so you should feel right at home!
Seriously though, keep safe and I wish you luck. Stuff like that is bad news and I hope everyone gets out safe.
Hey everyone thanks for your comments. I am completely fine, the cyclone turned and missed my city and hit several towns south of it. Nobody was directly killed by the cyclone, which was the biggest storm Australia has ever had in recent generations. If it did hit I would be homeless. The houses in those towns are completely obliterated so I would definitely be homeless right now if it hit Cairns. Now the community will suffer indirect deaths from the cyclone; such as farmers committing suicide (they lost all their crops just as they were recovering from last year), a man used a generator indoors (fumes killed him), relationships being destroyed over financial stress resulting in mums and dads committing suicide. Terrible stuff of-course, hopefully the many volunteers, emergency services, army, and charities will manage to keep the deaths down.
Okay let me talk about myself again and be attention seeking:
I wasn't scared, and I doubt you would be either, what did scare me was when I went and checked on a family member at their house to see that they were okay and her vicious dog with a mental problem (abused by former owner as pup), is extremely dangerous and I had to walk around it and pretend not to notice (if it thinks you notice it attacks).
Word out to the US population struggling with their biggest storm ever, (according to the news). Good luck to those that live in Japan near that volcano. For Cairo, I wish you all peace.
We have copped floods in the south now too, Melbourne and Victoria have been getting heaps of rain from the tail-end of the cyclone and a whole heap of suburbs have been flooded over the weekend.
Cyclone Yasi didn't seem to hit as hard as a lot of "experts" were saying though...
My prayers and thoughts are with our Northern neighbours; Australia has been copping it hard, especially since the drought was here for so long, and now that the drought has broken with floods, etc, I think some people may be praying for the drought to come back!
@Delta_Ass: There is, I don't pay insurance yet, but I think it is part of the normal home insurance. We have good agencies in our country and they have lost billions over the past month, hopefully they don't fold when their balances hit negative, because they are going to be really handy again probably soon
@FlyingRat: Thanks
@Everyones_A_Critic: Thanks to you two
