I think Neogaf is burning down

I’ve lurked on Gaf since 2008. Time to dust off the ol’ GB account now I guess.

@sethmode: yeah sorry, i wish I hadnt known either. I sent Josh Sawyer a question about portraits the other day on his tumblr and he replied right away. Maybe message him at https://jesawyer.tumblr.com and hope he can get an artist to give the portrait a once over and unmake it this fuckwit.

Yeah, count me in as one of the folks who might be hanging out around here a lot more if NeoGAF ends up gone for good. Funny thing was I actually discovered GAF due to the Deadly Premonition ER; was googling about the game and found GAF's thread about the ER. Since then it's kinda been my main site to kill time on the internet, not just the gaming section but the off-topic as well, and I imagine I've been on there at least twice a day pretty much every day. A bit of a bummer to see it go, but c'est la vie.

Sad if true.

NeoGAF was probably one of the most important sites for gaming for a long time. Especially in the late 00's. Some legendary threads and posters originated there.

I only really started lurking GAF in the last couple of months. I think it's greatest strength is how quickly it moves There are new posts every minute. It's like rolling news but for games. It can be weirdly addictive.

I won't go back until the owner is gone though. There are other places to go. Like here at giant bomb dot com.

Yeah like all the mods have left and the admins. Its a god damned dumpster fire.

Even if Evilore quit and someone else bought it, they'd have to start from scratch in terms of staffing.

Looks like this could be the end for neogaf, unless Lore gives it to someone else.

Hopefully something else will rise up out of this because I enjoyed reading/posting there for the most part.

Well I'd give a little finger to read the conversations behind the scenes right now. The lack of an open discussion is the most frustrating thing atm.

I really did enjoy the game community threads at Gaf but from what I could last gleam from over there is that a lot of those communities are now migrating to Discord.

Many years ago, I moved from GameFAQs to NeoGAF for my gaming discussion. I think it was finding out through the NeoGAF Giant Bomb thread that Jeff gave my Deadly Premonition playing cards to Swery that made me an active NeoGAF visitor in the first place, lol.

I know it was notoriously difficult to get a NeoGAF account in the first place, and I'm sure a lot of outsiders are bitter about that, but it really was a nice place to talk about games without having to worry too much about trolling and such. It's a bummer that it looks like it's gone.

But here I am posting on the GB forums again! I'll probably stick around. I don't wanna go back to GameFAQs or try to navigate the meme swamp that is Reddit.

Hey everyone. Long time GAF dude here. Man, what a crazy day. So sad, I was there for ten years now. And it’s all gone thanks to one guys stupid, ugly, inexcusable behavior.

in all honesty I don't know much longer EviLore can wait to release his "statement". There may not be much of a site by tomorrow at this rate

I would say I hope this causes an uptick in GB forum activity, but I also don't want this place to become NeoGaf. I much prefer the vibe here to NeoGAF as that place is full of ban baiting and outrage 24/7.

This place is real chill.

Gaf is so much more than EviLore. I can only hope it can get handed off to someone else.

So many people seem to trash it online and I don't know why. Yeah you get some bad eggs but overall I really enjoy my time there.

This is unforgivable and just sad. It's almost all gone. Ten years down the drain, and I only started posting last year. Sign!!!

Cant say I am shocked but at least it finally happened. Evilore has been poorly trying to cover up his creeper shit for years. Today the entire mod team just finally had enough I guess.

If the site can somehow come back from this and Evilore can f off to a dark hole somewhere I am going to feel kinda bad for the posters sacrificing accounts now. There are some good communities on there.

Thanks @bossin and @toparaman for responding. It really sucks that these things keep happening inside the video game industry, its a really huge problem considering the Naughty Dog allegations that just happened recently.

I hope that GAF finds a new home, there were some really insightful threads over there even back when I used to browse it more regulary like 8 years or so ago. This must really suck for a whole lot of people.

Sad end to a important piece of gaming culture. I've been on there since 2008 practically at the same time that GB was in its infancy. Makes sense for me to come here with GB being my favorite gaming media site.

Will be sad to see it go. There were a tonne of neat sub communities on GAF.

Last time I could think of a mass exodus like this was probably 1UP when it was sold and laid off a bunch of its staff? Obviously NeoGaf was a much bigger community. Sucks that it seems to be ran by so many shitty people.

Man, so many great threads would be lost if it truely is the end. For example, the PC building thread was a great resource for those looking to build new systems.

Although I'm sure I will receive a severe wedgie from my duders, I must inform all new-comers to go over the community rules. Welcome to Giant Bomb. :)

I don't have much of a personal experience with NeoGAF (I have an account and read it sometimes, but never posted), but it must be tough to for those of you who've had your communities swept away. I know how important having a place to feel accepted (even just a forum) can be. Hope you find somewhere else to fit in.

Nevertheless, I'm thinking much more about those who were harassed: I hope they have a support network right now (especially to shield them from any online-mod-mentality that breeds from this). I'm pleased the mods/admins seem to have taken a stand, but I hope this doesn't isolate the victims.

I don't remember how long I was a member, but I'd been posting there a lot these last couple years. I never paid much attention to the owner. I did see a thread from someone posting the shower story, said it was on behalf of his sister. Said it was someone well known, but didn't give a name. I thought it was odd the thread vanished after about 10 posts or so. Usually if something is considered someone trolling or repeating BS it's locked with a modbot explanation. Not nuked out of existance.

GAF has good screenshot threads, everything else I've seen on that site has been a shitshow. Sadly screenshots on GB have bad compression.

This is a sad day, since I took almost all my VG news from neogaf. But it's great that that woman found the courage to spoke out. I hope there will be legal repercussions for EvilLore.

I think everyone is waiting for Evilore's statement. That and trying to get some details from the mods. At this point I dunno what the heck kind of statement he could make that would matter.

I mean, the reasons why Gaf is trashed online are quite well known. Rightly or wrongly, the site is regarded as something of a self-righteous echo chamber with draconian modding policies.

Doesn't help that this happened on a Saturday afternoon.

Neogaf was one of the biggest gaming forums left.

Community Boards are vastly superior to sites like Reddit/Twitter in terms of potential for communications. With those sites if you miss something the first time, it's gone forever no matter how often someone comments on it days later.

It's a shame that one owner can destroy what was mostly a genuinely good community.

I'm not surprised, EviLore has been a scumbag for years. Shame he seems to be taking the site down with him. Ah well, here's the the GB forums and the Waypoint forms being more active!

I mainly went to GAF for gaming news aggregation, random NPD info, and game dev posts (also Mama Robotnik breakdowns of secret game history)

I also went to OT for their threads on CWTV. I wonder if ZeroX03 has an account here, because I need me some Flash/Arrow OT threads. :(\

Edit: Assuming all the stuff leading to this is true, EviLore is an asshole. Even if it's true, it's sad to see all of the trolls/GGers jump out of the woodwork to celebrate. It's like seeing Nazis/KKK dancing in the street because a Ethnic community center got shut down due to one of the leaders being a scumbag, or something.

Sadly I don't think anything will be able to replace GAF. For all of its many faults there were some great people and communities there.

Don't know if someone has told you already, but General Discussion is meant for GB site related stuff that's not bug reporting and general gaming that doesn't have a wiki page.

Pretty shocking. I didn’t post there much, but it was a great resource for news and I visited regularly because of it. I wonder what the end result of all this will be.

Sure the GAF forums aren't/wern't as chill or fun as the GB ones but one of the reasons I went to GAF years ago for most of my forum needs was that this place is slow with news/rumors and just general info.

With GAF its like, you log in, check a thread for ten minutes and there was bound to be something else interesting going on my the time you refreshed.

Also GAF sometimes acted as my first notification of world news. There was a global critical mass of people on that site that I just don't think can be replicated elsewhere

Gaf has always been so creepy, pedo apologist threads, and one of the mods actually being arrested for having child porn. Even before they banned me I stayed solely on the gaming side which was actually great. Malka has always been a creep yet the users continued to kiss his ass, glad to see this fuck finally get the shit he deserves.
