Any one here know anything about shortwave radios and might be willing to answer a few questions. I've been doing a lot of research on them, but the information isn't exactly presented in a noob friendly kind of way. I would appreciate some help.

I recently found about Numbers Stations, and became sort of obsessed with researching them. This lead a general interest in shortwave as I did some research on DXting. I was wondering what would be a good starter shortwave set up for around 3 or 4 hundred smackers. What would it include, and what would I be able to pick up. I want to record and log numbers stations and broadcasts world wide.

Again thanks if any one can help.

@Damien: I didn't do much research on CB. If you can recommend something I'll look into it. I'm more interested in picking up signals and recording things than talking back.

Sony ICR-SW7600GR.It's the size of a paperback book, digital tuning for those in-between signals , and high reliability. You can run extra wire off of it.SSB tuning too. There's a numbers station group on yahoo.
